Check out our latest blog, written by Jason Martinez and Jay Epstein RCDD on designing AV and telecommunications for Esports facilities. Esports spaces require special attention to equipment, player experience, and university branding - similar to other collegiate sports. The National Association of Collegiate Esports (NACE) has seen rapid growth in membership in just a few years - and with tens of millions of dollars in scholarship funds, there is still a lot of room for expansion.

We are excited to showcase the new Somerville High School, which recently opened its doors to some 1,600 students. Acentech provided acoustics and AV design for the six-story, 396,000-square-foot building, with specialized spaces for the Career and Technical Education (CTE) program, science labs, art studios, three music rooms, a multi-level media center, a fully renovated gymnasium, a collegiate-style lecture hall, outdoor learning and dining areas, and state-of-the-art technology throughout. The historic gym (more recently a library), has been reborn as a new 750-seat auditorium, with the original façade and grand stair restored as a public entrance facing Highland Avenue. Large windows throughout the building bring in natural light and create connections with the outdoors. Congrats to SMMA and the entire design, engineering and construction team!

Join Senior Consultant and sustainability expert Kristen Murphy on Tuesday 3/22/22 for a in-depth webinar on Sustainable Acoustics, hosted by Built Environment Plus. Acoustics is a critical component in providing a comfortable listening environment for users and is recognized by several building rating systems for sustainability and health including LEED, WELL, Fitwel, and Passive House. Kristen will review acoustic principles and various ways in which sustainable design can be applied to acoustics to extend green design concepts. (Link to register in Acentech bio.)

To celebrate Black History Month, Acentech is highlighting the work of James West, the inventor of the foil electret microphone. A Black American inventor and acoustician, he holds over 250 patents for microphones and electronics. As a child, he was fascinated by the mechanics of appliances and gadgets. "If I had a screwdriver and a pair of pliers, anything that could be opened was in danger," West would later recollect. "I had this need to know what was inside."​​​​​​​​

Acentech is proud to share our latest museum collaboration, the Mingei International Museum in San Diego, designed by Luce Et Studio. The re-imagined museum features galleries, an art library, restaurant and multi-purpose theatre (created from an unused loading dock). Acentech developed acoustical criteria for spaces based on room function, as well as recommendations for room shaping and finishes. Read more about it on our website!

Acentech provided consulting services for the Ora Seaport + Hyatt Place project in Boston's growing seaport.

Acentech was hired by Arrowstreet Inc., the design architect and master planner for this new 500,000 square foot waterfront development. Our team provided a range of acoustical and noise control consulting services, addressing issues like aircraft noise and heavy truck noise.
