Here I am, giving the a go one more time! I last attempted this project in...2017? So it's been a minute! One of my goals for this year is to be more comfortable writing and drawing and working with my hands *on* paper instead of just *with* paper (cutting, collaging, etc) and as I build out my new body of work I have been wanting a pressure-free space to play around. I'm calling this my "100 days of sketchbook/journaling" and I am definitely not posting daily updates here, but will possibly pop in with some reflections and photos/videos every once in a while. My plan is to track my progress old-school by writing down what I worked on each day in a list at the back of the book.
So far it has been fun to use some of my snowed-in (snowed-out, actually, since we're stuck in NC during the blizzard at home) to process my time at quiltcon, reflect on my notes from the lectures I attended, and play with some design ideas from the quilt show.

More quilts! It turned out that deciding to stay until the quilt show ended this afternoon means we got caught up in all the flight cancellations as the next blizzard hits the east coast, so we're stuck in Raleigh for a while longer!
Not at all the way we'd planned to spend this coming week, but maybe also the Universe's way of providing me with that "undistracted time to work on my website" I keep saying I'll find somewhere? Lessons in flexibility, and all that sort of thing.
Do you want to see more quilts?? I have so many pictures!

Family reunion / research trip to QuiltCon this weekend! I spent some time today exploring the (huge, amazing) quilt show, and realized I was specifically captivated by the quilts that incorporated text in various ways. This is just a small selection of the amazing things on display at this show, and I am in awe of all of these patient people cutting and stitching and stitching and stitching to make these beautiful pieces of art.
(The photo of each quilt is followed by a photo of the tag with artist info and statement)

My next class at is coming up soon! Join me for three Tuesday evenings in March for "How to see like an artist". This will be a fun interactive and collaborative class exploring what we see when we look at art (in the broadest sense of the word) and why we do or don't like what we see!
I'm not planning to spend a ton of time on color theory, but when I discovered the 3D color wheel, I knew I wanted to have one to show in class because, well, we all know I love 3D paper objects, but also I think it's the easiest way to visualize the full spectrum of color!
There are just a few seats left in the class if you'd like to join us. DM me with any questions or if you need the registration link, or you can find it by tapping through to the Arlington Community Education profile and visiting their website.

Looking forward to teaching my "Make your own Paper Place" workshop at Albertine Press in Cambridge, MA on Sunday! This is an open-ended paper sculpting workshop. I'll share some techniques, and then offer support as-needed as you create your own custom framed artwork. You can choose any of my 100+ map locations to work with, and either create an abstract decoration for inside the frame, or bring photos and memorabilia to complete a memory shadowbox of a special place.
See you there?

If there's one thing I've learned in 10+ years of self-employment, it's that carving out space and time for open-ended creativity is the best way for me to be an all-around better human being. Something about that act of stepping into the unknown and making something new out of nothing is a shortcut to me being a kinder, happier person.
That's why my Paper Places workshop is open-ended! You can choose a place to start, but after that the only limitations are time (it's a 2.5 hour workshop), resources (I bring a LOT of tools and supplies though, so it won't feel limiting!), and your imagination!
So, if you're looking for a chance to flex your creative muscles this winter, maybe I'll see you at Albertine Press in Cambridge, MA on Sunday, Feb. 8?

Bash sat on my feet as I read the last two pages of this book of essays that I've been working my way through the last few months, and I'm sharing them here in case they might provide a little encouragement. Hope is a verb, I hear!
Now back to working on commissions, building paper trains, and doing my little part to weave, mend, and wash our "single garment of destiny" ♥️

Hello from 2026! It's a wild ride so far, but it feels good to have some space and time to do some rearranging, recalibrating, reevaluating, and renewing.
Wherever you find yourself, my hope is that you can feel the ground beneath your feet, the promise of fresh air, and the hope of a new day. You're not alone, you're on the right track, and it's okay to take care of yourself.
♥️
Stay tuned for some new things! I've been working on some fun commissions that I can't share now, but I'm excited to share once they arrive in their new homes!
