On the eve of the final race weekend of the season, I want to tell you the story about a very special sticker on Jaxon’s kart…
While Jaxon has been into everything drivable with an engine since day one, his aspirations to be a driver are relatively new. A few years ago Adam wanted to make a concerted effort to do something to bond with the boys. He and Jaxon started watching Drive to Survive together and also started a tradition of watching every Formula 1 race together when possible. They also try to make a breakfast that is traditional to the country the race is located. After a while, Jax declared that he would be an open-wheel racer someday.
Last summer we went to Mexico with Adam’s family and Jaxon was able to spend a lot of quality time with his amazing uncle Patrick, who is very familiar with motorsports, racing, and is a legend in the PDX scooter world. After they spent the afternoon on a sea kayak and Jax talked his ear off about his driving aspirations, Patrick told me that if Jax seriously wants to race, he needs to start karting. I was surprised because at that point, all I knew about go-karting was from amusement parks like Fort Fun or Boondocks. When we got home I started to do some research and, sure enough, just about every F1 driver got their start karting when they were even younger than Jaxon. By the fall we found Coach Adam and the Rylance Racing team and started practicing.
After one session early this spring Jaxon told me he had a special request. He wants every kart and race car that he races to always have a sticker that says “Thanks Patrick” because his uncle is really the one who started him on this awesome path.
We’re so thankful for the guidance of uncle Patrick and aunt Sara as well as the support from ALL of our family and friends. We truly couldn’t do it without all of you!

Rookie Race 2/4: SBR Motorsports Park
First time on this track and as said, progress isn’t always linear.
After an accident during second round of practice that bent the axle and chassis frame, wasn’t able to get much practice time in. A forgotten chin strap led to a DQ for the final race.
Finished every lap possible, and appreciative of my teammates, mechanics and coaches for helping me get better.

Charting out the track for Round 7 tomorrow at . Excited to finally be racing again!
My first penalty in my first race! When I went off track in qualifying, a cone got wedged in my kart. Didn't want to just throw it behind me and potentially hurt someone, but at least got it to a marshal. 😆
