Juneteenth is important for so many reasons.
On June 19, 1865, over two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed, enslaved people in Texas were finally informed that they were free.

For me, Juneteenth is a reminder of the importance of knowing the truth about our history…the good, the bad, and everything in between. It’s also a day to honor the people who lived through slavery and celebrate the freedom that was so long overdue.
