June is Cataract Awareness Month! Cataracts are a naturally occurring condition of the lens inside the eye. Over years of UV exposure, the lens becomes cloudy and less flexible. This leads to difficulty focusing, issues with glare, and many other symptoms. Yearly eye exams are recommended in order to watch for conditions like cataracts and to ensure the continued health of your eyes.

The meibomian glands in the eyelids produce the oil required for a stable, healthy tear film. Every time you blink, oil is pushed out and smoothed across your eye. With reduced blink rates from increased digital screen usage, environmental factors, and inflammatory diseases, the oil can harden and not flow as easily out of the glands, causing the tears to evaporate or fall from the eyes (aka watery eyes).
