Now that students have discovered that properties help us distinguish substances from one another. They are now investigating what happens when you combine substances. Students have found that certain substances undergo chemical reactions when they are combined. Chemical reactions change substances and create new substances with different properties!

Welcome to the BCWMS 7th Grade Science page! We are so excited to start the year and are looking forward to engaging students in scientific inquiry! This page will serve as another place to get information about your student's 7th Grade Science experience. We will post agendas and other pertinent information to this page. We will also be posting pictures of what is going on in 7th Grade Science. This will be a great place for you to see what is going on in class and get an idea of the things your student is doing in class on a day to day basis. Please like this page and share it with other parents so they can like it as well! It is our goal as 7th Grade science teachers to keep you as informed and involved as possible in your student's learning! Thank you and again we look forward to a great year!

We have spent the past week or so reviewing some important 5th and 6th grade science topics. One of these was potential and kinetic energy. Students were testing the height of rebound of different type so for balls and determining how potential and kinetic energy were involved. You may have seen them playing a game called coaster creator where they need to design a working roller coasters using the ideas of potential and kinetic energy!

7th graders start taking the MSTEP May 8th. Our science MSTEP will be May 15th and 16th. Make sure you student is getting rest and gives their best effort!

As we wrap up our Chemistry Unit students spent a few class periods last week trying to figure out ways to separate four different substances from a mixture. They needed to design a way to get these substances out of the mixture based on the physical properties of these substances. Many students came up with great ideas for how to get their mixture separated but found that it was a very difficult task. Students used physical properties like magnetism, particle size, solubility, and others to separate iron, sawdust, sand, and salt from a mixture. Students needed to use their chemistry knowledge in order to figure out the best way to get everything back out of a mixture that was all mixed up!
