!! Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) Road Construction in Butte area PSA !!

Construction begins on Butte Urban Pavement Preservation project

BUTTE, Mont. – The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and Hollow Contracting, Inc. are rehabilitating 11 roads in the Butte area as part of the Butte Urban Pavement Preservation project. These roads include Excelsior Avenue, Park Street, Grand Avenue, Amherst Avenue, Elizabeth Warren Avenue, Four Mile Road, Utah Avenue, Electric Street, Western Boulevard, Shields Avenue and Farrell Street.

Planned improvements include:

- Removing and replacing the top layer of pavement.
- Crack sealing the roadway.
- Replacing guardrail.
- Seal and cover (chip seal) the roadway.
- New pavement markings.
Each road has been evaluated and will receive select improvements from the list above. No roads that are part of this project will receive all these improvements.
The purpose of this project is to make critical improvements that will extend the service life of these roads in a cost-effective manner. Work on this project is anticipated to be completed in a single construction season.

Due to the nature of the project, traffic control will vary from location to location. Generally, motorists can expect flaggers or traffic sensing smart signals to direct traffic. Each construction zone will have reduced speed limits and motorists may encounter delays of up to 15 minutes when traveling through the project areas.

On-street parking may be limited briefly during construction. All disabled vehicles parked on the street need to be moved prior to work occurring, to avoid towing. Accesses or driveways may be temporarily disrupted during paving or chip sealing operations.

The contractor will accommodate emergency services at all times.

Wide loads may be restricted on a case-by-case basis for the construction zones. Visit 511mt.net for the most up-to-date information on width restrictions and other traffic control.

More information about the planned improvements and construction activities can be found at: www.mdt.mt.gov/pubinvolve/butteurban. For current traffic conditions and up-to-date restrictions visit 511mt.net.

If you’d like to sign up to receive email notifications about construction activities, email Tyler at [email protected]. To receive text notifications, text BURB to 866-434-0866 (toll-free)*. Questions and comments can be directed to Tyler Manning at [email protected] or by phone at 406-333-0062.
