Milwaukee Baptist Church
Milwaukee Baptist Church is a Christ centered Bible believing and preaching church.
We are fundamental, dispensational, independent, and Baptist in our doctrine and practice.
We will be having services on Sunday morning March 15th. After that we will assess the risk of continuing to hold public services and will post updates as needed here and on our website. Streaming will be available soon as well.
The snow that is expected and the fact that our pastor is sick has led us to cancel church this week.
Here is the theology question of the day:
Is the great commission in Matthew 28 about evangelism (getting someone saved) or about discipleship -- what you do when you get them saved?
Here is the answer based on the verbs:
There is one verb and three participles;
(1) The Main verb is teach -- it is a command. This word is the verb form of the word disciple so it is about making disciples.
(2) The first participle is "Go" which is an attendant circumstance, which explains the "prerequisite" for the main verb.
(3) The next two participles are called "participles of means." They say the means of making🕴 disciples. So you make a disciple by baptizing them and teaching them to observe the things that Jesus taught the disciples and the disciples taught us through His word. The Catholic Church, the Anglican Church, and Lutherans all think that a person gets saved through Baptism so they turned this into an evangelism passage centuries ago. But I'm a Baptist and you don't get saved by getting Baptized so making disciples is what happens after they are saved.
Here is a principle: Every disciple is a believer, but not every believer is a disciple. If you are saved and you have never been been baptized in believers baptism and you have never been taught to commit your whole life to the Lord Jesus then you're not a disciple. You can be saved but still need to learn to obey the obedience of a believer as part of your sanctification
