The Butler Chapter, along with the Butler Outdoor Club were key in establishing the vision, organization, and construction of the NCT in PA.
The Butler Chapter is dedicated to providing a premium hiking trail to all hikers and to achieving the goal of a continuous off road trail for the through-hikers of the North Country Trail. Our dedicated volunteers get great satisfaction in providing a premium trail for the pleasure of both the local and long distance hikers along the North Country Trail. A big thank you to all our sawyers. After these wind storms we have had, there are a lot of trees down and blocking the trail. When hiking do your part, by picking up branches and helping them clear our trails.

The Cherry Pie hike and celebration of Washington's Birthday was a great success. Lots of pie, soup, fun, history and of course hikes, were had by all. 🥧 🍲

THANKSGIVING POT LUCK lunch November 22 @ 12:00 . Then we will take a hike around the Jennings area to the NCT and circle back. Turkey and potatoes will be provided. Bring your favorite dessert or side. Park at the Jennings Prairie side back parking lot. What fun we had hiking in the dark and in the cemetery on Halloween evening.Haveing the young ones and some of my family there made it extra special.

October 31, 7:00 pm, Halloween hike, at West Sunbury.Trail head is on the left, as you travel North from West Sunbury next to Lawheads garage, rt. 308. Come have a little spooky fun as we take a short hike in the dark through the woods to the cemetery. Search for a few unique tombstones, with a tombstone scavenger hunt. And of course there will be treats. Costumes are optional. Bring a flashlight or headlamp.

Oct 11 10:00am - Ramble Muddy Creek Pump House -Moraine
Meet us at the Wyggeston trail head and we will take an easy to moderate loop and then hike to the pump house to see the Muddy Creek Oil Field - Living History Demonstration. This is a moderate 2 to 3 mile hike.
The Muddy Creek Oil Well is an award-winning restoration site of an antique oil well. The Bessemer Gas Engine and Marshall-Barr No. 19 oil well equipment is restored and open for visitors to hear and see the industry that powered this region. So come out and see the Bessemer engine pump some Pennsylvania crude!

Head West on 422 take Prospect exit to 528 make left onto Christley Rd make right into the parking lot.
