Happy 100th heavenly birthday to the grandfather of modern cheerleading, Lawrence Herkie Herkimer! Born and raised in Muskegon, Michigan. Herkie invented the spirit stick, the pom-pom, cheer unis, megaphones, training camps, and competitions at his company NCA. If it weren’t for competitions I’d be living in a van down by the river, so thank you Herkie! 🙆‍♀️

I watched this last night for the first time in 25 years. It’s odd seeing it now after working in the spirit industry for 20 years. One thing I noticed was that they only had seven panels on their mat at nationals. Interesting how things change through the years.

COACHES: We keep hearing rumors about a big change to the low battery pop-up when your phone reaches 20% battery. Supposedly the new iOS 26 launching this fall will make a BIG deal of it and probably stop the music (like it does now). This has stopped music at our DJ table in the past. Keep your phone charged because you don’t wanna be caught in the 20% battery trap. This fall Apple is jumping from iOS 18 to iOS 26 in an effort to create a naming scheme similar to new car model years.

We've had ZERO music errors at The MAJORS since 2012.
