UVM is hosting the 2026 Just Transformations in Food Systems and Cultures annual meeting!
Presenters from across the world are gathered over 3 days (June 7-10) to discuss transformations and processes related to sustainability, equity, sovereignty, ecological care, and other forms of transformative action in the realm of food systems.
Participants share their areas of expertise, while scholars, farmers, community organizers, and students are welcome to attend or view limited virtual sessions.

As you reach for the mulch, a word of caution: beware of the mulch volcano! 🌋
This common mistake happens when mulch is piled high onto the tree’s trunk. Instead of volcano, think donut!

The UVM Dairy Challenge Club brought home two first-place finishes at the National Dairy Challenge! 🏆
At the North American Intercollegiate Dairy Challenge in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, this marked a major accomplishment for UVM.
Shoutout to Mackenna Weaver and Gabriela Galvez, who placed first in their divisions!

A couple of dozen people attended a workshop this week at UVM's Jericho Research Forest to enjoy the beauty of spring ephemerals and learn more about their role in a practice called forest farming. 🌱

During National Volunteer Month in April, Vermont 4-H wants its nearly 1,000 volunteers to know how much their time, commitment and service, which they provide to youth and families across the state, is appreciated.
"Our volunteers give so much," University of Vermont Extension 4-H Volunteer and Outreach Coordinator Amanda Royce recently told Across the Fence. "They really are the heart of our program, and they're running clubs and they're doing so many things."

UVM hosted the 2026 State Hippology and Quiz Bowl competition on Saturday, April 11, where 4-H'ers put their horse knowledge to the test!
The day started with Hippology, where youth demonstrate their understanding of equine veterinary and management facts.

Cedar Mountain Farm recently hosted the 2026 Central and Southeastern Vermont Regional 4-H Dairy Judging Competition!
34 youth participants, ages 8-18, gathered to judge Jersey cattle, test their knowledge of confirmation, and learn about desirable traits from experts. Colverbuds, ages 5-7, also joined to watch!

CALS is proud to announce a 2026 recipient of the Goldwater Scholarship, Madison Guyette!
Madison is a junior majoring in Molecular Genetics and is the only UVM student to receive the prestigious national science prize this year! Madison is from Swanton, Vermont, and has been passionate about science and research since she was young.
In the Chatterjee Lab, where she currently works, she conducts research on how cancer cells survive DNA damage and how blocking a key pathway (REV1) could make cancer treatments more effective. She is proud to receive the award and, after graduation, she is interested in pursuing a PhD to continue her research on cancer and DNA repair.
