1 in 8 American adults meets the criteria for alcohol use disorder.

That's your neighbor. Your coworker. Your sibling. Maybe you.

And yet, fewer than 1 in 10 people who need treatment for alcohol use disorder receive it.

The gap isn't about access alone. It's about shame.

When we make it safer to talk about alcohol honestly, more people get the help they need. That's what Alcohol Awareness Month is really about.

💚 Share this if you believe people deserve support, not stigma.

♥️I've known and admired Daniel Franklin for over ten years. As the Education Specialist at Burlington Laboratories I was tasked with educating our personnel and the general public on stigma, people who use drugs, their various treatments and paths of recovery.
It was here Daniel and I both began to focus upon stigma and its relationship to mortality; the ways stigma incessantly fuels punitive thinking and feeling toward those most in need of compassion and empathy, causing disconnection and death.
Daniel and I, along with our very many partners in Vermont, have not relented in our mission: to respond with love to our neighbors at-risk for accidental drug overdose death and the myriad of other harms associated with addiction, stigma and the War on Drugs.
It's eleven years later and relentlessness remains the only constant.
We continue to grow and mature as dedicated professionals and genuine people; we never turn our backs on those needing our support and advocacy; we speak truth to power - sometimes with great volume and sometimes in private...
And we continue to learn how to love our neighbor...
Congratulations on this latest step forward my friend...Ed
