Nothing topped the feeling of throwing down a dunk so hard the entire glass backboard completely shattered—followed immediately by the janitor shuffling out with his broom to give you an earful! 😂🧹

One on One: Dr. J vs. Larry Bird (1983) brought so much personality and competitive trash-talk to the 8-bit era. Decades later, pulling off this animation never gets old.

Did you ever break the backboard back in the day? Who was your go-to: Dr. J or Larry Legend? 👇

Where my D&D video game journey actually began… ⚔️🐉

After sharing all my Commodore 64 D&D games, I had to bring out the classic that started it all for me: Advanced Dungeons & Dragons on the Mattel Intellivision (1982)!

I kept the Pool of Radiance soundtrack playing in the background to bridge the C64 series, but all those original Intellivision clicks, monster growls, and arrow twangs are 100% real hardware running through the Commodore 1701 CRT.

Did you play AD&D on the Intellivision back in the day, or were you strictly on Atari, ColecoVision, or PC? Let me know in the comments!

Unboxing and loading Heroes of the Lance (SSI, 1988) on the Commodore 128 / C64 setup with a 1571 disk drive and Commodore 1702 CRT monitor.

Digging through the original box contents, looking up Goldmoon’s stats in the manual to pass copy protection, and jumping straight into some real-hardware side-scrolling combat.

Did you ever have to look up character stats in the physical manual just to pass copy protection back in the day?

Unboxing and loading up AD&D Hillsfar on the Commodore 64 using the original 1571 drive and CRT display! Complete with the classic translation code wheel and original poster feelies.

Did you ever clear the lockpicking minigame in Hillsfar, or did you break all your picks?

That blinking red light on the 1541 means one thing: bad news for your disk. I've stared at this thing more times than I'd like to admit.

Ever had a 1541 give you the dreaded blink of doom?

After the massive success of Pool of Radiance, the Gold Box saga continues! 🐉✨ Curse of the Azure Bonds took everything that made the original great and turned up the epic factor on the Commodore 64.

From unboxing the original SSI gold box and code wheel to loading it up on the 1541 disk drive, here is a look back at one of the finest D&D RPGs of the 8-bit era.

Fulfilling a promise to the seller who hooked me up with this matching Gateway Windows XP setup! He wanted to see Battlefield 1942 running on it, so after a bit of era-appropriate keygens, patches, and setup work, we let that iconic EA intro hit and jumped straight into battle. Nothing beats vintage PC gaming on period-correct hardware! 🕹️💻

What game brings back the most nostalgia from the Windows XP era for you? Let me know below!

Before digital passwords or product keys, 80s RPGs used physical artifacts to stop piracy!

Here is how the Pool of Radiance (1988) translation wheel worked on original Commodore 64 hardware, matching the outer Esprer rune to the inner Dwarven rune to decipher the code word on a Commodore 1702 CRT monitor.

Did you ever lose your translation wheel back in the day and get locked out of a game?
