The Sludge of Self-Care 02/18/2022

"The Instagram stories are always telling me how to take care of myself. It’s helpful, mostly. Except for when it isn’t."

Have you found yourself unable to start... well, anything? Maybe it's your morning shower, or maybe it's that ambitious new jewelry company you devised one especially manic Saturday. QC friend & contributor Katie Cosgrove sure has, and is here to tell you: You. Are. Not. Alone. This is the first in an installment of what (we hope!) will be a (ir)regularly occurring series of essays, but of course, we ain't gonna hold her to it. After all, "sludgy" isn't an adjective we've been called.... yet.

Photos from Qween City's post 10/08/2021

This week is super exciting around the ol' QCHQ -- It's the five-year anniversary of our first week of posts way back in October 2016, y'all!! Back then the ed-in-chief typed those first several stories with one finger, the other hand snuggly in a cast; since that rocky beginning we've been lucky enough to talk to and write about over 100 women in our community, take part in several exciting & inspiring collaborations with myriad organizations in town, publish several up-and-coming voices in the city, & welcome FOUR dang babies to the tribe!

It has been an absolute honor to meet you & tell these stories, Buffalo. We look forward to continuing the work in 2022 & beyond. 🖤💛🖤

(Here are some fun collages we made in 2019, used to tell the story of Qween City on the pages of Buffalo Boss Babes, Sept. 2019: https://www.buffalobossbabes.com/buffalo-boss-babes/2019/9/6/buffalo-boss-babe-kristy-rock).

Smash Talks: Transition within the Tribe 09/03/2021

Happy Friday, y'all! Our resident Marriage & Family Therapist Ashera DeRosa (Whole Stories Therapy and at wholestoriestherapy.com) responds to a reader going through a major transitional era in their personal life, but concerned how this change will affect the individuals in their family. As always, Ashera provides a refreshing, relevant perspective on the situation, both tuned to this individual and the greater human question as a whole. Have a great weekend, and happy well-being!

Smash Talks: Transition within the Tribe Dear Smashera, For most of my life I've struggled with my gender identity. Biologically, I am female; but I only feel comfortable if I live and behave as though male, and until I learned about LGBTQIA+ theory and history sometime in my early twenties, I felt utterly "unwelcome" in my body. Once I
