Miro mi reflejo y veo la mirada juguetona, enfocada, compasiva y astuta que mi madre me dejó. Me enfoco sin reparo. Ecos de historias del ayer repetidas una y otra vez atemperan mis dos pozos. Atenuado; vivo. ¿Shock? Falta una pieza. Pero, ¿verdaderamente falta?

Le prometí al oído que viviría en mi por siempre. Por siempre. Más allá de “nunca te olvidaré.” Lo prometido es ilimitado. Su amor vive; literalmente vive en mí. ¿Cómo reduzco esto a sólo palabras?

Palabras, no me fallen ahora. Mami raised literal titans. Aunque le prometí al oído que viviría en mi por siempre, balbuceo; merodeo dentro de la pregunta; ¿cómo camino por el mundo sin ti? ¡No busco soluciones; juro que no las necesito!

Y no entiendo. Y no entiendo la finalidad de todo. “Participo” en conversaciones donde divago mientras la gente murmulla, hablan de momentos jocosos, tristes, neutros del pasado y me separo de la realidad cual neutrino viajando a la velocidad de la luz- te imagino, mami, en un plano que nos pertenece sólo a ti y a mi.

Estás sentada en tu silla reclinable en tu casa conmigo al teléfono, mirando una película en la que actúo. O hablamos de Gorki o de Bolaño. O te veo en el público mientras actúo en una obra de teatro. Luego yo regresando a nuestro Puerto Rico para querernos y celebrar el logro que sin tu apoyo jamás, JAMÁS hubiese logrado.

¿Quién diría que criarías un actor?

Te prometí al oído que vivirías en mi por siempre; hasta que ambos seamos polvo de estrellas. Me aguanto todas las lágrimas que sólo a veces te mostré; tan acertado y enfocado en el amor como cuando sostenía tu frente tibia mientras te ibas.

¡Ah! Reto las barreras del tiempo, espacio y dimensiones; planetas, estrellas, nebulosas, agujeros negros, púlsares, mejor aún, la luna; tu nombre mismo; magia Puertorriqueña.
