In Memoriam: Buffalo Police Officer Patricia A. Parete

With heavy hearts and profound gratitude for their service, we remember Buffalo Police Officer Patricia A. Parete, a dedicated member of our law enforcement family who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Her courage, integrity, and selflessness serve as a beacon of inspiration for us all. Officer Parete exemplified the highest ideals of duty and honor. Her unwavering commitment to protecting and serving our community will forever be in our hearts and minds.

Officer Patty Parete succumbed to gunshot wounds sustained on December 5th, 2006, when she and her partner confronted an armed subject while responding to a 911 call about a fight at a convenience store at Elmwood Avenue and Chippewa Street.

They located the subject near the intersection of Georgia Street and Whitney Street. As they searched the subject, he produced a handgun and opened fire, striking both officers in the face. Officer Parete suffered a spinal injury because of the shooting and became paralyzed from the neck down. She died because of complications from the wounds on February 2nd, 2013.

The subject was convicted of charges in connection with the shooting of both officers and sentenced to 30 years in prison.

Officer Parete had actively served with the Buffalo Police Department for over five years. She was survived by her friend, father, two brothers, and sister, and the department also named K9 Paddy in her honor.

The Buffalo PBA is vehemently opposed to Sean Ryan’s attempts to defund the areas police departments. He wants to inject “community responders” to Western NY! When citizens call 911, they expect an armed, trained police officer will respond and handle the call.

Today we remember Officer James Shields, E.O.W. 10-30-2002 RIP Jimmy
