Let me be clear about the Karmelo Anthony fundraiser. Because the speculation is traveling and the facts aren't.

FACT: The fundraiser was created by Karmelo's mother, Kala Hayes, on April 15, 2025 less than two weeks after the incident. Stated goal: $1,396,725.

FACT: As of his sentencing, the fund had raised approximately $629,724 less than half the original goal.

FACT: In 2025, GiveSendGo's co-founder confirmed to multiple outlets that the family had NOT withdrawn any money from the fund at that time. The claim that they'd already bought a house and car with donations was rated FALSE.

FACT: GiveSendGo's official June 2026 statement says funds were disbursed over the past year for "lawful purposes, including legal defense and family relocation."

FACT: The relocation happened because the family was doxed and received threats. GiveSendGo's founder told Fox News in 2025 that funds would go toward a "secure location for them to live." This was a safety measure, not a luxury purchase.

FACT: GiveSendGo's founder told TMZ that no money was used toward Karmelo's bond.

FACT: The day after the conviction, GiveSendGo unpublished the page citing their policy that a fundraiser's stated purpose must stay accurate, and the case was now resolved.

FACT: Donations continued pouring in even AFTER the guilty verdict and 35-year sentence the fund grew by over $4,000 overnight post-sentencing before it was shut down.

FACT: A NEW fundraiser has reportedly been started by Dominique Alexander, a Dallas civil rights activist serving as the family's spokesman.

FACT: Karmelo Anthony himself filed his appeal by hand, describing himself as "penniless, destitute, and indigent" despite the public narrative about hundreds of thousands of dollars.

So what's the truth? The family received money for legal defense and for relocating after being doxed and threatened. The claims of misappropriation that spread in 2025 were rated false at the time. What happens with the new fund going forward is worth watching, but the smears about the original fund don't hold up against what GiveSendGo and the family have actually stated on record.

THOUGHTS: The roughly $630K raised was reportedly spent on legal defense and relocation over the past year and Karmelo’s own appeal filing describes him as penniless. Whatever cushion existed appears to be gone.

Judge Joe Brown is up here talking like it’s the 1940s, telling Black people to “knuckle up” and calling Karmelo Anthony dishonorable for not fighting straight up against a bigger, stronger Austin Metcalf.

Stop it.

We all know if Joe got into a fistfight today and lost, he’d be in court the next morning suing everybody!

That “fight fair” era is long gone. It was fading in the 80s. You’re 30–40 years late.

Joe, check your inbox. There’s a memo waiting titled: times have changed.

Ask any of the many white men who picked up a weapon instead of throwing hands.

Telling Black people to fight fair in a world that clearly doesn’t is not wisdom, it’s bad advice.

Now is not the time for you and Jemele Hill to lecture Black Boys.

Save some of that energy for White Boys calling us racial slurs and putting their hands on us.

Black America knows if the Karmelo Anthony–Austin Metcalf roles were reversed, this story would’ve vanished quicker than an Instagram Story.

Let me be clear about what's happening in the Karmelo Anthony case RIGHT NOW. Because the verdict traveled. The fallout isn't.

FACT: Karmelo Anthony filed his own appeal BY HAND the day after sentencing.

FACT: In his filing, he described himself as "penniless, destitute, and indigent" and asked the court to appoint him an attorney.

FACT: $635,000 was raised for his defense. The donation account has since been closed.

FACT: Karmelo Anthony is currently being held in solitary confinement at Collin County Jail while the system figures out where to place him.

FACT: He has never been in trouble before. No record. No gang affiliation. He was taking college courses while awaiting trial.

FACT: The Batson Challenge I covered all week is now confirmed as a likely ground for appeal. Legal experts agree the denial of that challenge is the most compelling appellate argument in the case. (Shout out to my detractors).

FACT: The prosecution's own closing argument admitted they could not prove whether Karmelo stabbed Austin Metcalfe or whether Metcalfe fell onto the knife. Yet the jury returned a murder conviction.

FACT: Under Texas law, murder requires knowingly and intentionally taking a life. If the prosecution admitted they couldn't prove the stabbing was intentional — how was murder proven beyond a reasonable doubt?

FACT: The defense mounted a four-hour case against a prosecution that went on for days. Not one moment in that courtroom is being cited as a standout defense.

FACT: Jasmine Crockett, Kamala Harris, Michelle Obama, the Congressional Black Caucus, AOC — none of them said a word DURING the trial. Now some are speaking. After the sentence. After it's over.

FACT: Every nationality in the comment sections of videos attacking Black America came forward to declare solidarity with the other side. Latinos. Asians. Arabs. Filipinos. Italians. Peruvians. Pan Africans.

FACT: There is no people of color coalition. The Karmelo Anthony verdict just proved it again.

This fight is not over. The appeal is filed. The Batson Challenge lives.
