⁉️ To See a TMJ Physical Therapist BEFORE or AFTER wisdom teeth removal ⁉️

🦷Prehab:
If you're already experiencing signs/symptoms of TMJD, start PT prior to surgery to lessen pain, address preexisting impairments, and improve daily life. The trauma from surgery can temporarily worsen TMJD symptoms, but we’re here to help. Symptoms can range from jaw pain, popping/clicking, and limited opening to earaches and headaches.

🦷Rehab:
Most surgical swelling and stiffness should significantly improve within 1 to 2 weeks. If you are 3+ weeks post-op and still struggling to open your mouth normally, or if you are experiencing new, localized jaw pain, it is time to get evaluated by a specialized physical therapist.

We don’t just treat backs and knees—physical therapy can restore normal joint mechanics, release tight jaw muscles, and get you chewing comfortably again.

💬 Drop a comment: Did your jaw stiffness clear up after surgery, or did it linger? Let’s chat below!

👇 Save this reel for later or share it with someone who just got their wisdom teeth out!

💖June is Pelvic Organ Prolapse (POP) Awareness Month!! 💖

Let’s talk about a pelvic health tool that doesn’t get enough credit: The Pessary ⭕️

What is it?
Think of a pessary like a sports bra for your pelvic organs. It’s a small, flexible silicone device inserted into the va**na to provide structural support for your bladder, uterus, re**um, or all of the above.

Why it’s a game-changer:
🏋️‍♀️ Pressure Relief: It physically holds things in place, reducing that “bulge” or heavy feeling right away.
🏃‍♀️ Get Active Again: It can stop leaking and pressure during workouts, running, or lifting.
🛠️ Non-Surgical: It’s a completely reversible, non-invasive option you can use long-term or just when you need it.

Pessaries come in all shapes and sizes (rings, cubes, donuts!) because everyone’s anatomy is different.

They are fitted by a pelvic floor physical therapist, gynecologist, or urogynecologist to ensure the perfect match.

Living with prolapse doesn’t mean you have to sit on the sidelines. Ask your healthcare provider if a pessary might be right for you!

Have you ever heard of a pessary before? Let’s destigmatize pelvic health in the comments! 💬👇

Hills Dr. Walton will die on:

🌸Birth control prescriptions for heavy painful periods should always come with a Pelvic PT referral.
- PFPT helps address symptoms like muscle tightness and restrictions in the pelvic floor/abdomen/back, teaching self-management techniques throughout the cycle, and incorporate nutrition and exercise for further relief

🌸Hormones matter and impact every single body system.
- Women’s hormones fluctuate daily but change significantly during pregnancy and perimenopause/menopause. These changes manifest physically and affect our overall health.
- PS: va**nal estrogen cream should be standard during perimenopause to improve skin quality and reduce risk of UTIs

🌸Postpartum Physical Therapy should be standard of care.
-You created life and carried it for months! Now, you’re expected to recover while taking care of a new human being. Then, you have ONE follow-up appointment and are told “You’re cleared.” Mothers deserve better attention, direction, and assistance to be proactive in recovery.

🌸Your body is all connected-- from your foot, pelvis, and back to your breathing, stress, and sleep patterns.
- You deserve a provider who looks at the whole picture, acknowledges your symptoms can be connected, and treats root causes.
- Not all pelvic floor PTs are created equal ... and without advanced training, the bigger picture can be missed

🌸Kegels are circa late 1940s
- A one size fits all approach is outdated. Your care should be individualized and include hands on techniques, exercises, and education!
- PFM length, strength, and coordination must work together in ALL positions. Tight DOES NOT equal strong
