Little Steps, Big Milestones! 🎓💙
Every child deserves a strong start, and every parent deserves the support and encouragement to help them succeed!

This July, we celebrated a special milestone as a mother and her son graduated from Project Unity’s HOPES Parents as Teachers program!

Throughout their journey, this dedicated mom embraced her role as her son’s first and most important teacher. From home visits and Parent Cafés to fun learning activities at home, she gained valuable parenting skills, built meaningful connections, and created an environment where her son could thrive.

And her little boy? He’s getting ready for KINDERGARTEN! 🎒✏️

Through play, exploration, early literacy, and hands-on learning, he made incredible strides in communication, motor skills, letter recognition, and confidence. Every new skill was a milestone worth celebrating!

While their time in HOPES has come to an end, their journey of learning is just beginning. Mom leaves equipped with the tools, confidence, and community connections to continue supporting her son for years to come.

This is what HOPES is all about: stronger parents, thriving children, and brighter futures! 💙

💙 SUCCESS STORY: Rebuilding Connection & Confidence

A mother and her teenage daughter came to Project Unity’s FAYS program during a difficult season for their family.

The teen was struggling with bullying, friendships, belonging, and an unhealthy relationship that had begun to affect her confidence and independence. At the same time, her mother worried that the connection between them was slipping away.

Through Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, they began working together to identify their strengths, improve communication, and set goals for healthier relationships and personal growth.

Over time, the changes became visible.

The teen began developing a healthier circle of friends, becoming more confident, and expressing herself more openly. She learned to communicate her needs with her mother and began taking greater pride in who she was. Getting involved in a supportive community activity also gave her the opportunity to form new, positive friendships.

Her mother shared that before beginning services, she feared she was losing her relationship with her daughter.

Today, their bond is stronger.

They communicate more openly. They understand one another better. And most importantly, they are moving forward with hope.

Stories like this remind us that sometimes success looks like a young person rediscovering confidence, a parent reconnecting with their child, and a family realizing they do not have to navigate difficult seasons alone.

Through FAYS, Project Unity is helping families strengthen relationships, build resilience, and create healthier paths forward.

Here are just a few photos from what has been an incredible trip so far. I’m honored to be here as part of a U.S. delegation engaging in important conversations about voting at age 16, elevating the voices of young people in democracy, and ensuring communities have meaningful representation at the national level.

We’ve been delighted to receive official welcomes from the Cities of Edinburgh, Glasgow, Stirling, and Kirkcaldy, as well as the Scottish Parliament. The hospitality, conversations, and exchange of ideas have been truly remarkable.

Our U.S. delegation brings together voices from California, Texas, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, New York, and Washington, D.C. — different communities and experiences coming together to listen, learn, and explore how people can be more meaningfully engaged in the democratic process.

There is so much we can learn from one another across borders. The Scots have welcomed us generously and given us an up-close look at how they are approaching youth participation, community voice, and democracy.

I’m excited to bring these conversations, ideas, and experiences home with me — and I can’t wait to share more! 💙🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇺🇸

🎉 BINGO NIGHT = COMMUNITY, CONNECTION & A WHOLE LOT OF FUN! 🎉

Our Bingo Night was about so much more than winning prizes—it was about bringing families together. ❤️

Parents and children spent the evening laughing, playing, celebrating wins, and simply enjoying time with one another. Along the way, something even better happened: families connected, conversations started, and new friendships began to form.

This is what community looks like—creating spaces where people feel welcomed, families can have fun together, and relationships have the opportunity to grow.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the evening so special. We hope you left with a prize, a smile, a new friend, or maybe all three! 🥰

At Project Unity, we believe stronger connections help build stronger families—and stronger families build stronger communities.

600 enrollments. More than 2,300 people reached. Thousands of moments of connection. One purpose: stronger families. ❤️

Over the past year, Project Unity’s HOPES program has been walking alongside families across Brazos, Robertson, Milam, and Burleson counties—helping parents and caregivers navigate the real-life challenges that affect the health and stability of their entire household.

And the impact tells a powerful story:

🏡 600 enrollments served, representing households with at least 2,322 family members.
🤝 5,768 participant interactions
💬 2,012 requests for support
🔗 1,049 referrals connecting families with additional resources
❤️ 6,677 services provided
⭐ 6,119 documented outcomes achieved

But behind every number is a person.

A parent trying to find affordable child care. A family working toward stable housing. A caregiver looking for employment, transportation, healthcare, food assistance, or simply someone who will listen and help them figure out what comes next.

That’s why HOPES looks at the whole family—not just one need at a time. Our work brings together parenting support, family strengthening, resources, referrals, education, and relationships to help families build healthier, more nurturing environments for their children.

And even in the middle of significant challenges, families identified faith, caring for one another, and hope among their greatest strengths.

That’s the part of the story we love most: HOPE is already present. Our job is to come alongside it.

To every family who trusted us, every community partner who worked beside us, and every staff member who showed up again and again—thank you.

Together, we’re not simply providing services.
We’re strengthening families. We’re connecting communities. We’re building hope.

HIDDEN HEROES OF PROJECT UNITY: CHRISSY LAWLIS

Not every hero wears a cape—but we think Chrissy Lawlis, our Executive Assistant/Programs Specialist, has definitely earned one!

Chrissy is one of those people who simply makes things happen at Project Unity. Behind the scenes, she keeps details moving, supports our leadership and programs, solves problems, coordinates countless moving pieces, and helps turn ideas into action.

So much of what happens in front of the community is possible because someone is working tirelessly behind the scenes—and Chrissy is one of our Hidden Heroes.

Her work may not always be the most visible, but its impact is felt throughout our organization and the communities we serve.
