Glynn and Brunswick EMAs have partnered to launch Golden Isles Business Ready.

Golden Isles Business Ready is a new voluntary, no-cost program designed to strengthen partnerships between local businesses and emergency management while helping the private sector prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies.

Businesses are an essential part of the Golden Isles community, and their ability to continue operating—or return to operation quickly—following a disaster can play an important role in the community’s overall recovery.

The goals of Golden Isles Business Ready include:

Strengthening communication and relationships between Emergency Management and the local business community.

Helping businesses improve emergency preparedness and continuity planning.

Creating stronger lines of communication before, during and after emergencies.

Identifying private-sector resources and capabilities that may be available to support community response and recovery.

Building a more resilient Golden Isles by bringing the public and private sectors together before disaster strikes.

Participation in Golden Isles Business Ready is completely voluntary and provided at no cost to participating businesses.

The program is based on a simple idea: the best time for Emergency Management and the business community to build relationships is before an emergency happens.

By developing those partnerships now, businesses can better understand how the EMA responds during emergencies, EMA can better understand the needs and capabilities of the private sector, and both can work together toward a faster and more effective recovery for the entire community.

Last week, we were proud to host the Fire/EMS Pathway students from Golden Isles College & Career Academy.

It is not every day that you find people who want to build a career serving others, who are willing to run toward danger when others are running away. So when we find students who are interested in committing to Fire/EMS as a career pathway, we want to do everything we can to encourage them.

Plus, it's great that they're homegrown, planning to serve the community where they were raised.

-Community risk reduction and public education

-Real world fire safety applications

Firefighter Westberry recently completed all requirements and testing for certification as a Georgia Firefighter.

Week 3 of the academy will focus on the EMS Division.

You will:

-Hear from the Division Chief of EMS.

-Get hands-on experience in emergency medical services and patient care.

-See an overview of the equipment and learn ambulance operations

-Learn the role of EMS in the fire service.

It was our honor to be able to “turn out” for today’s Brunswick Fire Foundation 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at Glynn County Stadium. Chief Vinny showed real leadership as he donned his turnout gear and led our firefighters up and down the stairs 20 times to symbolize the steps needed to climb the 110 stories of the World Trade Center, honoring the heroic efforts of the first responders who ascended the towers on September 11, 2001.

Thanks to everyone who “turned out” to help make this event a success!

The 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony at the Glynn County Courthouse today was beautiful, a reminder of bravery and loss. It was also a reminder of the days after 9/11, where neighbor aided neighbor and division ever so briefly melted away.
