Rain or shine, you can find us outside!
Our recent Naturalist 101 trip out to Cumberland Island was a great success—even with the scorching sun and windy downpours ⛈ Guided by our intrepid educators Stephanie Chewning and Eric Swanson, we found a giant osprey nest, saw dolphins chasing the ferry, and watched dung beetles at work, all capped off with a quick dip in the Atlantic 😎
Thanks to everyone who joined us on this adventure and we look forward to picking back up our Naturalist 101 lectures and field trips in the fall 💚

Sign the petition now 👉 OneHundredMiles.org/Canal-Petition 👍 Protect Tom Triplett Park and the Savannah-Ogeechee Canal from overdevelopment by urging the Chatham County Commission to DENY a new road and bridge crossing over the canal.
💚 Friends Of Urban Nature Savannah, Savannah-Ogeechee Canal Museum and Nature Center, Coastal Greenspace Guardians
Volunteers met at Tom Triplett Community Park this past Saturday for a trail clean-up and to learn about a proposed warehouse development that impacts the area.
Several nonprofits have collaborated to launch a petition urging Chatham County to deny a proposal for a new road immediately adjacent to the park and a bridge crossing the historic Savannah Ogeechee Canal. These are intended to support a proposed 116-acre industrial warehouse development that is expected to generate 3,140 traffic trips per day. The proposed development is situated on wetlands in an area of "Threatened Regionally Important Resources: Areas where crucial natural or cultural resources are likely to be impacted by development".
One Hundred Miles, Friends Of Urban Nature Savannah, Savannah-Ogeechee Canal Museum and Nature Center, and Coastal GreenSpace Guardians are hosting the petition which can be viewed at this link: https://onehundredmiles.org/canal-petition/.

On Monday, the Garden City Council unanimously approved a six-month moratorium on data center development, to "allow city staff, planning commission, and city council sufficient time to review the impacts and consider the amendments to the zoning ordinance." Garden City is the third municipality along Georgia's coast to officially adopt a moratorium.
OHM North Coast Advocate Jeff Beauvais commented at the meeting, "It is encouraging to see the city council take this cautious approach and recognize that pressing pause is the best move for this city." He also warned that "developers are eyeing our region for this industry, and it’s critical that local governments act now."
