to one of the more unique moments of Flamin Frank Pedregon.

Some local racers believed Frank Pedregon's radical "Bucks-Down" fuel coupe sat so low that it wouldn't properly trip the starting line beams. That concern led to this scene at Puyallup in 1965.

In the photo, Frank can be seen manually pushing the legendary coupe into the beams by the left front wheel while track operator Clark Marshall, officials, and several concerned racers look on.

Innovation often challenges convention, and the "Bucks-Down" coupe certainly did just that. More than 60 years later, it remains one of the most iconic and talked-about machines of its era.

A disappointing race day for the Snap-on Tools team here at Bristol Dragway.

We came into the first round with a setup we felt could take us deep into race day. As Cruz was preparing to pre-stage, he heard the RPM’s of the engine begin to climb, a sign the car may have been leaning out and losing fuel.

Rather than taking the tree, Cruz made the veteran decision to shut the car off immediately.

Back in the pits, our team discovered several concerning issues, including damaged pushrods and other internal engine problems. Multiple cylinders filled with fuel, a situation that could have resulted in catastrophic engine and body damage had the run been attempted.

While it’s frustrating to end the weekend this way, we’re grateful Cruz trusted his instincts and made the right call to protect both the race car and our team.

We’ll continue digging into the root cause of today’s issues throughout the week as we begin preparations for Norwalk. Be sure to keep an eye out for the next edition of Cruz’s Corner, where Cruz and the team will provide a more detailed look at what happened in Bristol, what we’ve found during our inspection, and the steps we’re taking moving forward.
