NYC y’all better do the right thing and vote in under the WFP line tomorrow.

i write to you weary from the weight of solo caregiving for a parent whose mind and body are unraveling with Parkinson’s, dementia and over 20 falls since last April. time that should be spent tending to our health is instead spent fighting insurance companies, and trying to navigate the disaster that is our health care system and VA during a government shutdown.

the past decade of deep grief on both a personal and collective level has revealed the extent of our government’s moral destitution. lining the pockets of a few, pouring money into endless war and destruction while cutting programs sustain life is not new, but the extremes are pushing so many beyond a breaking point. this suffering is preventable.

here are some clips from the New York is Not For Sale rally with , and 13,000 new yorkers. it is in these collective moments of joy and envisioning a future of care for all that keep my spirit going.

no movement is meant to weigh on any individual’s shoulders, and the ways that Mamdani and his team have galvanized so many who are working to build a more affordable New York are deeply inspiring. may we have a mayor that will fight for and with us. may the momentum echo far beyond this city and carry us through the morning.

since moving to bushwick in 2009, .anya.sapozhnikova has shaped NYC for me. i still remember my first time witnessing her in action, visceral, raw and full of danger in some factory warehouse. i never wanted to live in this town but her artistry and world building prowess reminds me why im here. HoY brought that old school new york magic that grows increasingly rare and im grateful to have gotten a chance to cut my teeth and flex my strange on its stage over the years.

3.12 relaxed performance of “otherland: a returning. we’re doing two sets, one open to the public and another designed for dementia patients and their caretakers for Moments with workshops to follow. this hit close to home as ive been navigating this journey with my dad.

3.12 later that evening ill be bringing some sounds to a Full Moon Reset with my favorite W**d Auntie. these gatherings are always nourishing to the soul.

after a few deep breaths im going back into the studio to finish recording “otherland: a sonic altar” by the end of the month. more soon on this but yall better get ready for this record!

for the past two weeks, ive had the joy of creating an embodied songwriting workshop called “otherland: a sapling” for high school students with co-facilitators and . with guidance and support from over at .

its long been a dream to build a program to deepen community engagement for the otherland world. im so grateful for the trust and open hearts offered during this experience. this was made possible by ’s Creative Equations Fund and our fiscal sponsor who has helped support the development of this otherland since its conception.

yesterday we had a magical recording session with the students and some of my siblings. engineered by . worlds converging!
