When We Dance

We wound our way amongst Isaiah Zagars colorful mosaics in South Philly as the dappled light filtered through the trees. R & L were whimsical in front of my lens, showing me the brightness and tenderness of their relationship. It was perfect.

Give me wood paneled halls, a perfect day on the upper east side, peonies so huge you want to take a bite, that goddamn mantel, vows that make you weep, a hot dog cart to start the day, bubbly drinks in tiny glasses, as the bride whose aesthetic is to die for, with the flawless ex*****on and you’ll drive away after a pit stop at a bodega for some pineapple, just absolutely so content and enthralled with getting to photograph that type of energy.

There is something so serene about being tucked away in the woods at . No cell reception, no outside noise, the darkness of the trees as the sun sets in, an open air tent, a warm fire in the lingering chill of Mays cool air - it was the ultimate foundation for a lovely wedding celebration for two people who love the Wissahickon.

I’ve had the pleasure of photographing pivotal moments in my close friends lives - becoming mothers, their weddings, their proposals. It’s not that I am even asked, I literally jump at the chance to get to experience that chapter of life alongside them in the capacity as their documentarian. Often I’ll get a “but don’t you want to be present?” to which I always say “this is my way of being present”. This is how I see you.

Pictured here is one of my best friends since we were 16. It was cool to step in to these “roles” if you will. Yet what we got was nothing short of rhythmic magic. From the morning sun on Kodak Gold to the evening sunset with my Mamiya on some Portra 400.

A & V’s wedding weekends touched my heart forever. It was an immersive experience full of color, song, tradition, sunshine and the kind of warmth felt within a deeply intertwined family.

It was an enormous pleasure for me to spend a few days in the Floridian sunshine documenting such a beautiful melting of families and cultures only made more special by how warmly I was received.
