Who is really manufacturing hate?

Last week, the House Judiciary Committee held another hearing targeting —a civil rights organization that protects your vote, exposes hate groups, and defends communities from violence. The SPLC has taken down the Ku Klux Klan, secured fairer voting maps for Black communities in Alabama and Louisiana, and documented extremist threats before they turned into violence. This is the work this administration wants to put on trial.

News headlines only capture a fraction of the reality: For every story we see, there are hundreds or thousands more individuals enduring the same injustices in the shadows.

In this clip from a recent webinar, our legal director outlines the vital work ahead for community advocates supporting our immigrant neighbors: the essential task of witnessing and documenting every violation.
It takes time and collective effort, but recording these violations ensures there will be a true accounting – and that no one is left behind.

Thank you for creating space for this necessary conversation.

🚨 Congress just voted to pour $70 billion more into the mass detention and deportation machine that separates children and parents, fuels fear, and abuses the human rights of millions.

Instead of investing in the safety, dignity, and well-being of families, and communities, lawmakers chose to lock in funding and strip away congressional oversight for and through 2029.

Justice in Motion is deeply disappointed by this vote. We will continue fighting for a world where people can move safely, stay connected to their families, and access justice across borders.

What happens when legal protections are ignored by the very government officials in charge of upholding them? Families are torn apart, not once, but twice.

A powerful investigation by Garance Burke and Sonia Pérez D. for reveals that dozens of children who were initially taken from their parents under the first Trump administration, have been separated from their families for a second time.

These family separations are happening despite the Ms. L class-action lawsuit settlement, which was explicitly designed to protect these migrant families and prevent ongoing harm. Instead, as mass deportations accelerate, ICE is trampling these protections with complete impunity.

Garance and Sonia detail the excruciating story of a family, Mirsy Maricela Alva López and her two children, who spent eight years trying to heal from their first separation, only to be thrown back into the same nightmare.

A special shout out to for helping reunite this family and for being such critical partners in defending the rights of Ms. L families!
