ONE WEEK TIL SHOWTIME! 🤘😎🤘
Wit Lore Wednesday continues with an artist S/O has been one my go to artists for show flyers. W/O any sort of notes i knew they would always be bangers. We met years ago when she put on a show that Dim had the pleasure of playing. Been a big fan ever since. It’s been so cool to see her work on bigger and bigger projects. So so proud but also not surprised at all. Here are most of the flyers she has made for dim shows throughout the years! Thanks for all the eye candy 🤘🤩🤘

Wit Lore Wednesday on a Tuesday?! That’s right! Without I might not have ever lived in Portland! I might not even be alive today if it wasn’t for her but thats another story i don’t really wanna go into. 🙊 We met when was touring down California maybe 13 or 14 years ago? I ended up hopping on their bus on a whim up to SF and the rest is history as they say. Sometime after, i moved to portland for 6 months. I was deeply depressed and didn’t have my s**t together and moved back home. Qu really encouraged me to move back to Portland and saved a room at thee ole moon base for me. I gave portland a second chance and here i am over 11 years later! I think we’ve lived together for at least half my time here. Qu’s been like a stand-in mother to me here and now she’s a real mother (and a great one at that!) If you’re friends with Qu, you know how fiercely supportive of a friend she is. Also, it’s her birthday today! I’m honored that her & (and dylan) are debuting their project in a week on 1/14 See yall there!

For this late Wit Lore Wednesday I unearthed a special treat! As far as i know, this is the earliest video recording of Dim Wit dated 6/13/15! This maybe even be a "Tyler & the Verigins" show. As you can see it's pre labcoat and my wig has already fallen off. Many of my first shows were played in this basement (The Dacha) and now I live a block away from it. Funny story about this song in particular. It's called "Hoes n' Bros". In the song, i take on the voice of a "hoe" who is misjudged/misunderstood and a "bro" who recognizes the errors of his ways/bro culture. I tried to explain this to an anarchist space who turned us down from playing a show because the name of the song. 🙃 Only 5 more weeks til the farewell show! Ticket sales are very low 😬 but I trust that y'all have it saved in your calendar at least! January 14th!

Welcome back to Wit Lore Wednesday! Just a mere 6 more weeks til the farewell show! (Ticket link in bio!) Today we will cover the origins of the name Dim Wit. I was asked recently where it came from and i more or less said this. When i first moved to Portland, i wanted to get into stand up comedy. I signed up for open mic nights around town but ended up never going up. When i told an old friend of mine that i was trying to get into comedy, he said i wasn’t smart enough. Hearing that certainty left a scar. Especially since one of my biggest insecurities is being perceived as stupid. I never really got great grades and compared myself with my older brother who did. So when coming up with a band name, i wanted to take this insecurity and turn it into something else, something positive. By putting a simple little space in the word di**it, the name shifts in meaning entirely. Lyrically, i often write about the darker/bleaker (dim) things in life but with a playful/clever (wit) tone with wordplay. Thus the name Dim Wit. Now when i hear the name i feel empowered.

Back in the day you could say i was a bit of a drummer slt and you wouldn’t be wrong. One night, i had a different drummer for every song. So like maybe 8 in total? I felt like that was one of those shows where pretty much everyone in the audience was in one of the bands. It was fun to let them drum however they wanted and i would play to their particular styles. I think ive played with over a dozen drummers? A handful of dim drum alumni have been captured on cam. These days ive gone sober from both alcohol and drummers. I’ve even turned into a drummer myself in a band named Dinner Plans. You can catch us play a couple songs at the farewell show on January 14th! Ticky link in bio.

If it wasn’t for this guy, Dim Wit might not have been a thing. We used to live in “the Moonbase” which housed the band Moon By You and me as the odd one out. I always felt like an imposter surrounded by actual musicians. On new years eve (so like 2014 going into 2015 i believe?) the Moonbase hosted a “stand up get down” open mic night. I was encouraged to play a song and Tyler would accompany me on drums. Reluctantly i agreed to play “Strawberry Feelings”. I recall it went over well? And with that momentum we eventually started a band. I initially called it Tyler and the Verigins. We played a few shows under that name. I remember going to Mississippi pizza around that time and a clerk saw us play and assumed my name was Tyler of Tyler and the Verigins. 🤭 To help with stage fright, Tyler suggested we wear some sorta costume. We started with wigs and then later added the labcoats. This was initially a purely aesthetic (and functional for my sake) choice but it later solidified what Dim Wit is all about. at least to me. I always viewed the band a group of clown doctors hoping to heal the pain of the human condition through comedy and raw emotions. Is that a bit much/pretentious? Perhaps, but hey, its my truth! But yeah, people have mentioned early Dim was kinda both jazzy and p***y and i think most of that jazz was due to Tylers drumming. I always loved how it paired with my wonky p***y songs. As a treat and an ode to ty guy, heres the evolution of the classic handstand finish plus a photo from the inaugural crush house show. Photos by from the
