It has been a joy to go through my photos from our time on Indian Safari, but figuring out how to share them has felt overwhelming, so I thought, why not start small? Why not begin with the birds?

I’m gonna say now what the birders already know but which is really only a recent revelation to me: birds are little miracles. Every single one. Miraculous, bright little beings with their personality and their birdsong.

I sometimes wonder whether avid bird lovers experience bird calls as instant identification — as though the birds are shouting their names at them. Me I’m just out here with my Merlin app, marveling at a layer of existence revealed, previously invisible to me. I fell in love with birding during our safari and I hope you enjoy this selection of my favorites.

If I had to pick just one it would be the white throated kingfisher, seen in slide 1. We saw this bird many times during our drives. What a little jewel.

Thrilled to be sharing work from my time back at late last year, on assignment for the Washington Post Creative Group.

It was my honor to help tell the story of Leen, a 7 year old girl who traveled with her family from Saudi Arabia to receive a heart repair and lung transplant procedure from the incredible team of doctors at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford.

Seeing her run and play put the biggest smile on everyone’s faces that day. If you’d like to learn more about Leen and her journey, I’ve shared a link in my bio.

my mom lives about 15 min from red rocks canyon and so we drove out into the mountain for little walks just about every day. on this particular morning it snowed and I don’t think I’ve ever been in a desert when it was snowing before. what a magical morning we had. it was just beautiful.

after what felt like ke 100 years of rain, this week we are crashing head first into summer at a speed that is only achievable by hitching yourself to a couple of 5 years olds. it’s 100 degrees out, we’ve achieved warp speed, let er rip.
