🐾 Animal Welfare Week 🐾

There’s a lot about animal welfare that people never see.

You see the happy adoption photo.
The tail wagging.
The “gotcha day.”
The dog finally sleeping comfortably in a home.

And those moments are beautiful. They’re why we keep going.

But there is a whole lot of work that happens before that picture ever exists.

It’s walking into a shelter and seeing more dogs than there are places to put them.

It’s the dog who has never had a soft bed to sleep on.

Never had a toy that belonged to them.

Never known what it feels like to have a full bowl of food and fresh water.

Never had a safe place to sleep.

Never had a person who was theirs.

It’s the scared dog who won’t come out of the corner.

The dog who has never been shown kindness.

The medical case that needs more than anyone expected.

The emergency vet visit.

The transport that has to happen RIGHT NOW!

The medications, cleaning, feeding, laundry, paperwork, fundraising and countless messages.

It’s fosters rearranging their lives and opening their homes.

It’s volunteers giving up weekends, evenings and sometimes sleep.

It’s shelter and rescue workers carrying the weight of animals they couldn’t save, while still showing up the next morning to help the ones who are waiting.

And sometimes…

It’s sitting beside a dog at the end of their life, making sure they don’t have to be alone.

Animal welfare isn’t always fun. It isn’t always rewarding. And it definitely isn’t easy.

It can be physically exhausting.
It can be emotionally devastating.
And sometimes it breaks your heart.

But then there’s the dog who discovers a toy for the first time.

The one who curls up on a soft bed and finally relaxes.

The one who realizes that the food bowl is going to be filled again tomorrow.

The one who learns that hands can be gentle.

The one who finally gets to experience what every dog should have known all along:

Safety. Comfort. Full bellies. Soft places to sleep. And someone to love them. HOME 🐾🐾

Those are the moments that keep people coming back.

So this Animal Welfare Week, remember that behind every animal who gets a second chance are people doing the hard, messy, exhausting, heartbreaking work to make that second chance possible.

The shelter workers.
The rescue volunteers.
The fosters.
The transporters.
The veterinary teams.
The advocates.
And To every person who keeps showing up.

We see you. We appreciate you. And the animals are better because you didn’t stop caring.

We can’t save them all. But we can start with one. One life. One second chance. One dog who finally gets to know what love feels like. ❤️🐾🐾

Gracie is a 7-year-old, 80-pound Labrador with a giant heart! This sweet girl is incredibly loving, and happiest when she’s with her people.

Gracie loves to snuggle on the couch and is just as content lying peacefully by your side while you work. She absolutely LOVES going for walks and is leash trained, making her a great buddy for someone who enjoys getting out and about. She loads easily into the car and enjoys going for rides; she is praise- and treat-driven.

Gracie has been very sweet and welcoming with all the guests she has met in her foster home, although she has not been tested with kids. She has been great with both the adult cats and kitten in her foster home. With other dogs, Gracie does well when given a proper, thoughtful introduction.

At home, Gracie is a dream. She sleeps on a dog bed near her foster family, and has done so well that she has not needed to be crated at all. She loves being near her people and is happiest simply sharing life with her family.

If you’re looking for an affectionate, sweet-natured companion who will happily join you for a walk and then curl up beside you for a cozy evening, Gracie may be your girl.

Rowdy (lab) and Buddy # 6 (aussie) are a bonded pair who are looking for a forever home together—and they’re ready to fill that home with love, snuggles, and companionship! Rowdy is 9 years old and 75 pounds, while his best friend Buddy is 7 years old and about 100 pounds. Buddy is working on his health and fitness goals and is on a weight-loss program to help him lose approximately 20 pounds. Rowdy is currently being treated for heartworms and will be ready for adoption 9/9/26, but through it all, both boys remain their incredibly sweet, loving selves.

These two are true Velcro dogs. If you’re looking for dogs who want to be by your side, follow you around the house, and happily settle in for a good snuggle, Rowdy and Buddy are your boys! They absolutely love attention and would thrive with a family who has plenty of love and time to give them.

Both boys are house trained and leash trained, and they love playing with other dogs. They enjoy having fun and would love a family that will give them opportunities to play, relax, and simply enjoy life together. They have not yet been tested with cats or children, so those introductions would need to be arranged.

Today we’re celebrating the incredible dogs who help their people navigate the world with greater independence, confidence, and safety. These dogs aren’t just amazing….they’re working! ❤️

A few DOs & DON’Ts around service and guide dogs:

✅ DO admire them from a distance.
✅ DO give their handler plenty of space.
✅ DO ask before interacting with a working dog.
✅ DO teach children that working dogs have a job to do.
✅ DO appreciate the incredible training and dedication behind these teams.

🚫 DON’T pet, call to, whistle at, or distract a working dog.
🚫 DON’T offer treats or food.
🚫 DON’T let your dog approach or interact with a working dog.
🚫 DON’T assume a dog isn’t working just because they’re sitting quietly.
🚫 DON’T be offended if a handler doesn’t stop to chat.

Sometimes the best way to show these amazing dogs respect is simply to let them work. 💙

Thank you to all the guide and service dogs and the people who train, raise, support, and work alongside them for everything you do. 🐾

See a working dog? Give them space, let them focus, and thank them with your eyes… not your hands. 🦮❤️

Rabies is almost always fatal once symptoms appear, but the good news is it’s preventable. ❤️

Keeping our pets up to date on their rabies vaccinations protects them, protects other animals, and protects our families.

So today, give your pups an extra hug, check those vaccine records, and make sure they’re protected! 🐶💉

Near Tulsa, OK is this very well behaved lab who is getting older and needs a good home to enjoy. Keira lived with her owners for the past 10 years and the husband passed away. The wife is now caring for her two sick parents who require around the clock care and can't not devote the time deserved for a dog's life. The solution in that situation of an outdoor shed is not how she should live.

Keira did live with a small dog that whole time but we do not believe she does well with dogs typically, she lived very isolated with little social interaction. She does loves people, kids and adults.

She listens to commands like sit and lay down very well, she is food motivated and eats from the bowl with divided sections due to eating so fast which will be included. She is house trained but has had accidents, loves short walks, does fine in a car but due to aging hips needs assistance getting up.

Keira is a good companion for someone looking for a low maintenance dog.
