Livingston County has many, many services to assist caregivers. Again this Spring, Livingston County Consortium on Aging is holding the CareGivers' Fair at Brighton High School - April 2

Are you planning to spend time with your parents and/or your grown children during the holidays? If so, include a time for earnest discussion about each others' plans for the next step in life. Do you, your parents and children over 18 have a Medical Power of Attorney and a Durable Power of Attorney in case a life-changing accident ocurrs tomorrow? Who will take care of you and make your medical decisions? Who will pay your bills and be able to sell your stocks, car or house? It is never too soon to talk about the Next Step and to put the Options you want into writing.

We know that teenagers are much different children than they were as toddlers and that they are different again in their late twenties. Of course, there is physical, emotional and mental development, held together yet stretched by life experiences. So we should understand that are older adults are not as they were when they were young parents or first retired. They are Not like we are. They are beyond us.
Try not to judge them and their actions by how you think, feel and react at your age. (They've been there; done that.) You aren't where they are.
