Our Women’s History Month series concludes with the extraordinary Twyla Tharp.

Born in 1941, Tharp has spent more than six decades redefining contemporary dance – boldly blending classical ballet with jazz, pop, and modern movement. Her innovative choreography reshaped what American dance could look like.

Now at 84, she remains highly active with new premieres and revivals, proving that a love of movement doesn’t fade with age. Twyla Tharp inspires us not only through her groundbreaking early career but also by showing that passion, creativity, and artistry can carry you beautifully through a lifetime.

As we continue celebrating Women’s History Month, we turn the spotlight to Maria Tallchief.

America’s first prima ballerina and a proud member of the Osage Nation, Maria was not only a trailblazer for Native American dancers, but is widely considered one of the country’s most influential ballerinas of all time. As a principal dancer with the New York City Ballet, she helped establish American ballet on the world stage.

Her strength, artistry, and legacy continue to inspire generations of dancers today.

In honor of Women’s History Month, we celebrate the women who shaped dance as we know it today.

Martha Graham redefined modern dance with raw emotion, strength, and unapologetic expression – changing the art form forever. Through her groundbreaking technique centered on contraction and release, she introduced a new language of movement that allowed dancers to express complex human emotion in ways never seen before.

This month, we celebrate the pioneers whose courage and creativity continue to inspire every dancer who steps into the studio.
