One thing many people don’t realize about The Rodear is that the weekend begins before the gates open.

Here are two more workshop opportunities available this year:

Equine Drawing with Lucile Wedeking: Designed for all skill levels, the workshop helps students understand movement, shape, and form through fast, expressive sketching. Students will spend the morning drawing at the historic Hunewill Ranch, learning from live models in a setting where horses remain part of everyday life.

and

Beading with Robin Egan: Bead your own card wallet, complete with buckskin backing and concho accents, in this workshop led by Shoshone-Paiute tribal member Robin Egan. Robin will teach the traditional flat style using a two-thread method, along with how to design and choose colors that appeal to you.

Workshops are filling up fast! Be sure to reserve your spot before it’s too late! Tickets available here: https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/ticketing/the-rodear—2026

Before the weekend begins, people come to learn.

The workshops at The Rodear have become an important part of the experience. In small classes led by accomplished artists, makers, and writers, participants have the opportunity to spend time learning, creating, and connecting before the weekend officially begins.

Five workshops in silver, drawing, writing, beading and leatherwork begin before The Rodear weekend officially starts. Here are two opportunities to learn alongside artists and authors who will be part of The Rodear this year:

Join silversmith and engraver Jill Latno-Yamate for an in-depth workshop focused on forming and fabricating sterling silver.

This is the most in-depth silversmithing workshop we’ve offered at The Rodear.

Participants will create a sterling silver cuff bracelet featuring hand-fabricated flowers and stone accents while learning anticlastic forming techniques, soldering, stone setting, and finishing methods.
🔸
For the writers: Join author and speaker Amy Hale for a morning of writing, reflection, and conversation about the creative process.

Open to artists, makers, and creatives in any medium, the workshop invites participants to explore how writing can help give voice to their ideas, their work, and their creative lives.
🔸
Both workshops have limited spots left so be sure to reserve your seat before it’s sold out! More info about the workshops can be found on our website: https://therodear.org/tickets2026

Saturday, July 25th is the culmination of the weekend—a day spent among artists and makers, followed by an evening dedicated to supporting the next generation of western women artists.

From morning through the afternoon, the Barn Gallery and surrounding grounds are open to the public, offering time to explore original artwork, handcrafted gear, and the stories behind the work.

As evening approaches, the gathering shifts into a more intimate setting. Guests are welcomed back for dinner, followed by the Sallie Knowles Joseph Scholarship Auction led by Grayson Haydn-Myer.

The auction features original artwork and handcrafted pieces donated by Rodear artists, makers, and supporters. Throughout the evening, scholarship recipients will share stories of the work they are pursuing, the mentors they have studied with, and the opportunities made possible through the Sallie Knowles Joseph Scholarship.

We close the weekend with music from Montana singer-songwriter Sterling Drake. His songs draw from ranch life, wide-open country, and the people who call it home—an evening of music, dancing, and celebration beneath the Eastern Sierra sky.

Whether you’re joining us for the full weekend or just Saturday, we would love to have you with us.

Friday night at The Rodear begins with the first look at what this year’s artists and makers, from across the West, have brought to share as the Barn Gallery and Trade Show open for the evening.

Before dinner, guests are invited to wander through the displays, meet the women behind the work, and spend time with the craftsmanship, stories, and traditions carried forward through their art and handcrafted pieces.

As the evening settles in, everyone gathers for dinner and an intimate night of music and poetry.

We’re especially excited to welcome Jessie Veeder and Jade Brodie to The Rodear for the first time, alongside returning poet Annie Mackenzie.

There’s something special about Friday evening at The Rodear — the barn and grounds filled with conversation, artists sharing their work, and everyone beginning the weekend together.

So exciting to see SKJ Scholarship recipient teaching her own classes. First class is June 9/10, all the details on her website. And she’ll schedule a class for a group up to 4! It doesn’t get better than this! 🧡

We love seeing what’s possible when an artist chooses their own path - and finds the right mentor to walk it with them.
Kylie Sofich is a Sallie Knowles Joseph Scholarship recipient who trained in silver engraving at GRS in Kansas, building skill and confidence at the bench.
Scholarship applications close soon. We look forward to welcoming the next group of makers into this growing circle of learning and fellowship.

Just a quick reminder that applications for the 2026 Sallie Knowles Joseph Scholarship are open through January 31.

This scholarship is the heart of what we do at The Rodear, offering aspiring Western artists and makers the opportunity to design their own program of study and train one-on-one with accomplished mentors in their chosen fields.

If you—or someone you know—has been considering applying, we encourage you to visit our website to learn more and submit an application before the end of the month.
