Who’s coming to the Harford County Council meeting tomorrow night?

The Board of Health fall update is at 6:45pm. If the County Council discusses the lack of a permanent public health officer or termination of plans to bring on an epidemiologist at all rather than glossing over it entirely, logical fallacy bingo cards could come in handy.

Draw fair maps and compete. If parties/candidates lose seats, that’s on them. We deserve our votes to be earned, not stolen.

A small group of vocal anti-maskers are “in charge” of Harford County now?

Yes, Harford county residents, please do go tell the county council how you feel about the lunatic idea to hold a closed session vote to terminate our extremely well qualified public health officer in the middle of a pandemic, without telling anyone—including, apparently, Dr. Bishai himself—why OR even mentioning it at all until it was in the paper days later.

I would love to see how the public (not just a small vocal anti-mask group) REALLY feels about the CC’s decision, and the complete lack of transparency surrounding their actions. Somehow, I doubt it’s support.

The initial appointment went through the current GOP-controlled county council, which is being held hostage by a loud minority because they’re the ones showing up at the meetings.

When they don’t like the answers they get from reps, they back candidates to run against them. They’re organized, and their strategy works even when it’s not reflective of the views of their own party majority.

EVERYONE should be concerned, because left unchecked, they could take over the council which they basically are already pushing around.

The top two employers in Harford are Aberdeen Proving Ground and Upper Chesapeake - organizations which RELY on science to be effective. Of the top 40 employers, over half are technology, engineering, healthcare, or somehow related to STEM fields. Our county might lean red, but it doesn’t lean stupid.

PS, our county district maps are up for review, and the independent commission on redistricting presented a map which makes far more sense and would give us a chance to have representation that better reflects our communities. The county council does NOT have to accept it - meaning the whole notion of independent boards could be little more than a dog and pony show.

Like they said - there’s power in numbers. Get up and get involved before it’s too late.

Ya know, I’m guilty of not going to county council meetings myself. You know who does? The radical right, which apparently won’t be happy until they’ve fully exercised their “freedom” to toss science out the window.

They’re right about one thing — there’s strength in numbers. Sign the petition. Go to your next county council meeting (Nov 2 for Harford County). Go raise hell, and demand that elected officials at all levels of government do their jobs and represent *everyone,* not just a vocal minority.
