Lightscape at the Houston Botanic Garden
11/15/2025
My family is celebrating Christmas this weekend in Texas. We had a lovely walk through the Houston Botanic Garden Lightscape last night. It was quite spectacular!
I want to give a huge shout-out to my top Stars senders. Thank you for all the support!

Instead of organizing my sewing room, Mark and I are taking my mom and her good friend, Colleen Freeman, for a fun weekend in Branson!
What are you crafting this weekend?

BASTING SPRAY FOR QUILTS
This works only with cotton fabrics, cotton batting, flannel, etc. It will not work with poly.
Boil 1 cup water and 1/2 teaspoon salt.
Mix 1 cup water and 3 tablespoons of plain flour
Whisk the flour/water mixture into the water/salt mixture unril thick, stirring very frequently.
Remove from heat and cool for a few minutes then stir in 1 cup rubbing alcohol. Using a funnel, pour into a spray bottle.
Ok!!! I’ll be doing quick and easy Christmas crafts for us! Stay tuned.

Here are the nativity sets I mentioned in the video. I think I’ll paint Mary blue this time. Do y’all want to see me make these?

Denim Christmas trees! Aren’t they so cute?
Just a bit of rustic holiday decor. Each tree is crafted from different shades of denim fabric, giving them unique textures and colors. I added some other fabrics to create visual Interest…and a few decorations.
They're lightly stuffed. Then you mount them on painted dowels or natural wood branches and then onto wooden bases, which really completes the cozy, handmade look.
We will do these next…so…gather up your old denim, grab the stuffing, dig out some ribbon…and get ready for a bit of fun.

Do you know….how to nest your seams?
Nesting your seams when you are quilting is what makes those perfect points and is at the heart of perfecting the matching up of fabrics. In a nutshell it means to press your seam allowances opposite directions so that your two fabrics almost interlock as you sew.
