Satin-etched glazing is one of our favorite moves when diffused natural light is appropriate, a view undesirable, or when privacy is a concern. This bath in Victor Idaho checks all three.

This print by photographer stopped both my wife and I in our tracks at gallery during an art walk last fall. The textural quality, colors, and pattern feels right at home in our living room. We’ve waited many years for the right piece for this key display wall, and couldn’t be more thrilled!

The vertical grain cedar screens form a soft delineation between the dining room, kitchen, and the circulation towards the entryway and primary suite. Light is allowed to travel through the slats, forming interesting patterns. The varying tones within coastal cedar, create a gradient-like appearance, via careful selection and layout during installation. We detailed a custom black steel channel to receive the top and bottom of the slats and utilized all thread with metal bushings to provide consistent spaces. Perfect ex*****on by the carpentry team

With lower ceiling heights in the entryway and hallway, a moment of compression & release is further realized.

We haven’t specified carpet for a home in some time, but on this negative degree day, who wouldn’t want to feel the warmth of this wool carpet underfoot? Perfect install as usual by …one of our longtime sub relationships. The inset shelving, 2x4 foot terrazzo-look tile, white oak floors, and classic mid century pieces complete this space!

With each member on the Trimbach team being passionate about cuisine and cooking…kitchen design, specification, and installation is one of our favorite parts of the process. Client meetings frequently turn into recipe/technique conversations. This kitchen is flooded with natural light from a 12 foot wide patio door. We utilized two contrasting cabinet materials to created an emphasis on the horizontal line, a nod to the prairie architecture. The island worktop is uncluttered for the final plating of dishes and for casual meals. The work flow is from left to right, with food storage on the left side, out of frame. We specified a mix of Bosch Benchmark and 800 series appliances, with an induction cooktop, our preferred means of cooking. We look forward to hearing about the meals our clients produce in their new space!

A conversational living room within our Teton Springs prairie home. Triple-glazed windows applied in a repetitious fashion bring the mountain views into the space. We had specified a Scandinavian-style stove, as our clients were concerned about comfort and warmth on those frigid negative degree days. They chose to wait to install it until a winter had elapsed. Our clients have happily reported that the stove is unnecessary as the insulation strategy, air sealing, and triple glazing is more than sufficient in maintaining optimal comfort.

I think for the New Year we should share more photos of our work…time to sort through the thousands of project photos shot in 2024!

We designed this home for a young family in Victor Idaho. The Scandinavian form responds to the surrounding alpine landscape. With an H layout, public space and private space are clearly delineated with a fully-glazed connector. The negative spaces created by the H shape defines outdoor living opportunities.

Progress photo of our Bozeman prairie home project. We have long gravitated towards prairie homes, with their long horizontal lines, large protective eaves, and passive solar principles. This home is conventionally framed, but incorporates air barrier continuity details, rain-screened claddings, obsessive flashing detailing, and properly-installed fenestration.

Late summer sunny days at our Timberline Residence in Victor Idaho. The full-glazed entry connector provides a transitionary space between the public and private portions of this home.
