Spices add so much to a meal. I have become such a better cook now that I understand how spices alter my dish. Dare I even say I can throw in extra spice if it tastes like something is missing? Gasp! That was unthinkable for me just a few years ago. Once you understand the spice and the flavor that it adds (let alone the amazing health benefits that these little pops of flavor have) you too can be confident adding a pinch of this or a dash of that.
Lets start out with some spice staples to have in your pantry:
1. Black Pepper
2. Cayenne
3. Cinnamon
4. Chili pepper flakes
5. Coriander
6. Cumin
7. Curry
8. Garlic
9. Ginger
10. Nutmeg
11. Paprika
12. Turmeric

Winter is all about roasting veggies and its such a an easy, yummy way to up the plants in your diet. But dipping sauces take roasted veggies to the next level. Here is a current fav sauce:
Garlic-Dill Sauce
1/4 c hummus
1 lemon, juiced
1 tbsp fresh dill, minced
2-3 garlic cloves, pressed or minced
Stir together and add water if it is too thick. Season with salt. SO GOOD.
