Traditional chalet design often overlooks the outdoor experience so vital to the Montana lifestyle. At Chalet YMCT, we integrated overhang-protected balconies, supported by sturdy wooden corbels and hand-cut balustrades, to create year-round spaces that seamlessly connect the home to its rugged setting.

Obsidian House is in conversation with its surroundings, echoing the mountain’s rhythms throughout. Montana moss rock, timber, and steel meet sweeping glass to frame the views that first drew the owners here. Rooted in its site, it’s a home for seasons, celebrations, and quiet moments alike.

At Limestone Creek Ranch, the design centers on a compact, hand-hewn log cabin set within a breezeway that links the property’s two main structures. It gives the impression that the rest of the home grew around it, like a relic of the original ranch, still standing strong.

Cottage Modern is a five-level vertical camp on Flathead Lake. Starting at the top of the hill, the home wends its way, via stairs and bridges, down to a lakeside cabin where the owners spend most of their summer. Every level offers a distinct aperture, each one creating a pathway, both literal and visual, leading to the water.

A huge thank you to Architectural Digest for naming Camp Pretty Bird, Aaron Paul and Lauren Paul’s Idaho hideaway, one of the dreamiest country houses in AD Open Door history. With an abundance of recreational opportunities and a bunk room that practically books itself, it’s the kind of place where relaxation comes easy and screen time takes a backseat.

For our clients, Montana was the perfect setting to blend his love of the mountains with her deep connection to the water. Inspired by fishing camps from her childhood, Rest Haven Camp is a peaceful, modern retreat with clean lines and a design that stands apart from the more traditional homes the area is known for.

At Rest Haven Camp, the entry begins with a breezeway and glass bridge connecting the main living spaces to the private master wing, framing an elevated view of the lake. Stairs from the catwalk lead straight to the water; no need to go through the house when the lake is calling.
