Spend time this evening, and tomorrow, connecting to and revering the spirits that exist around you. Clean your altar, build a new one, make bread, and take joy in the simple act of being alive. Death will come for us all eventually. Samhain gives us the chance to celebrate life, death, and everything that exists in between.

First Snow Spell

Gathering snow from the first snowfall of the year is a wonderful way to cleanse and purify your crystals.

Winter often gets a bad rap. A season defined by darkness, its arrival beckons heavier coats, candles, and longer sips of coffee. It replaces the vibrant hues of fall with a sharp, dreary land-scape. The tips of branches newly bare whistle overhead, cold winds prickle the skin, and gray clouds mimic a collective energy that, from the outside, is drained of color. Yet underneath this veil of monotony, new life is building the strength to surface. Similar to the new moon, it is a blank canvas on which to set intentions, get clear on what you want, and prepare to bring your dreams to life.

After you collect the snow, place it in a bowl with the items you want to cleanse. Make sure your crystals will not be damaged by the water or the cold temperature. The most important ingredient in any spell is you and your intention. Repeat these words as you focus your powerful magickal intention on cleansing and purifying your crystals with the snow:
