My favorite time of the year in the Rocky Mountains. The anticipation along the journey is sometimes sweeter then the chrome prize on the other side of the divide. No, prize, 3-day skunker. Made some good casts, some bad, shared precious time with friends and the pup and soaked in hot springs under old wise cedars with tamaracks en fuego on the mountains in view. Grateful to be alive! Lucky to have such good people in my life!

Always have to go pay your dues and hear a couple great stories from Poppy at the before hitting the river! I learn something new about Mike every time I go into his shed. This time around I found out that he used to be a ski patroller at the bear canyon T bar when he lived in Bozeman. He said he had leather strap bindings on his skis and had powder up to his waist. Bring back the T bar fu***rs! .holst

Not perfect by any means, but getting closer to being an amateur spey fly tier. It’s progress and I think it will fish. Had to royally f**k up the previous fly to learn a few tricks a be patient with this twist at 11pm last night.

One of my few days on the Skagit many years ago. A couple dolly pulls and some big intimidating water to cover and approach. This zone is amazingly beautiful, misty and steeped in history, tradition and innovation.

Can’t stop thinking about long drives west of the divide, hot days spent stepping down a perfect piece of steelhead water and cold beers shared with friends around camp.
