Let’s be real: This Winter has been nothing short of disappointing. Instead of frozen calm, we got windy chaos. Instead of sledding or skiing on a bluebird day we wondered why we bought new snow gear as we stared at dusty fields and mostly dead grass. Even if you aren’t the biggest fan of the snow sports our area is known for, you’re probably feeling out of sorts. *Disregulated* 😵💫 The children feel this too! We plan our whole school year around seasonal patterns and milestones. Winter brought no hard reset. Without these normal rhythms they feel just as off and burned out as any adult I know right now. But the show must go on, because just one week in a child’s world can make all the difference socially and academically. We can’t get this time back! All we can do is try to show up each day willing to give the best we have and hope for a wonderful spring. 🌱

The conversation around reading continues to evolve — and so does the work ahead.
While there is growing agreement around the importance of evidence-based reading instruction, the conversation is now shifting toward how that instruction is implemented.
This raises important questions about instructional coherence, teacher preparation, and how we support strong leadership across systems.
A recent article in The 74 reflects this shift — highlighting that while there is broad consensus around the science of reading, implementation decisions remain complex and critical.
It also reinforces an important point: funding alone is not enough. Meaningful progress depends on thoughtful implementation, sustained professional learning, and strong systems of support.
It is encouraging to see growing bipartisan attention to literacy and a deeper understanding of what effective instruction requires, including attention to oral language development.
