Most people wait months before they call. Usually because they think calling starts something they can’t stop.
It doesn’t.

You reach Tina — a real person, not an intake queue. It’s fifteen minutes. You ask what you actually want to know, and we answer honestly, including the parts that are hard.
Nothing is decided on that call. There’s no application to sign and no commitment. Plenty of families talk to us and decide the timing isn’t right, and that’s a real outcome.

If you do move forward, licensing takes about four weeks. Trainings run after 5pm and on weekends, because most of our families work.

Ask one question. That’s a fine place to start.

You’ve probably already met them.

Teenagers in foster care are usually the last ones asked about. Families call ready to talk about babies and toddlers, and the conversation about teens tends to happen only if we bring it up.

But the teenagers who need homes in Utah aren’t abstract. They’re already in your school. Your neighborhood. Your congregation. They may already be the kid who ends up at your kitchen table on a Friday night.

Fostering a teenager is less about starting over than it is about staying. Being the adult who’s still there next month. Who shows up to the thing. Who keeps being normal with them on the bad days.

If you’ve raised teenagers — or if you’re the person other people’s teenagers seem to end up talking to — this may fit you better than you’d guess.

You will get this one in a checkout line, at a school pickup, from someone who means well and has no idea what they just asked.

Here’s the thing worth knowing early: you don’t owe anyone the whole story. Not the neighbor, not the woman behind you in line, not the person at church who is only trying to be friendly.

A child’s history belongs to that child. They get to decide who hears it, and when, and how much.

So have a short answer ready. “He’s part of our family right now” is a complete sentence. So is “We’re a foster family.” Warm, kind, and finished — no explanation required.

The goal isn’t to be guarded. It’s to make sure a kid never has to stand there while their story gets told to a stranger.
