We had a wonderful first week at preschool!

We’ve added some new centers to our preschool this year, so we moved our quiet space to a new area. This is a space for only one child to be at a time. Often times , this is a child’s first experience being away from home and being around a group of children. It can be a little overwhelming at times, so offering a ‘be-by-myself’ space is a great thing. It is never used as a punishment and we don’t send children there as a time out. Managing big emotions at this age is hard. We have many things in this space to help them. We have some calm down choices and a how do you feel chart. In our basket we have many fidget toys, items with different textures, and sensory bottles and other things. We rotate these items and bring in new things often. They are also welcome to take books off the shelf and read quietly to themselves. This has been an area that was constantly in use before and I think the kiddos will love the new and improved quiet space!

It’s been a really long time since we posted ! So sorry about that. We will try to do better this upcoming school year. One of our favorite games is First Orchard, (We call it “Oh, no! Crow!”) because when we roll a crow, we shout out, you guessed it, “Oh, no! Crow!”
Games are a great way to use our executive function skills, practice our impulse skills, we make decisions ,plan and follow directions. Games also help us with our social skills by practicing taking turns and being a good sport. All these amazing things all while having fun with our friends. This year we bought three more Haba games. We are excited to try them!
