Sometimes life feels like a light rainstorm and then something hard hits. But after the storm, we are left with the beautiful smell of fresh air, watered ground and a gentle breeze.
Everyone goes through rainstorms, don't forget to stop. Listen to the thunder, enjoy the lightning moments and the pounding of the drops of water. And always after the rain follows the rainbow.
I remember a time in my youth when torrential rain threatened our home and there was major flooding in the neighborhood including others who had lost their homes. I remember watching my dad try to unhook panels for a fence and he was standing on the fence because the ground beneath him was being swept away quickly by the flooding water. And then I remembered the rainbow that followed. A promise that everything would be okay. We didn't lose our home. For days on end we tirelessly sandbagged, cleared out barns basements and anything else that my family or neighbors needed. We had family members on call with trailers hitched to their trucks to come and help salvage anything before it was all lost. We found joy in those moments and kayaked in a new pond that was created in an empty field. We laughed and looked around at the walls that held memories knowing that they could potentially be washed away. We each packed a little bag and I knew that if they said we had to go I was to load up and drive my sisters to my grandma's house while my parents stayed behind salvaging anything they could. And miraculously the rainbow came instead of the flood.
Everyone experiences a flood in their lives, whether it is a literal or symbolic flood. Sometimes we get both. But what is most important is who we are after the floods.
This is why self-care is number one on our list. This is why our goal is to help you achieve that in any way we can.

When I was a kid, we moved next door to a Chinese family. Their kids went to school, did their lessons, ate dinner and went to bed. We were the wild kids, road bikes rollerblades, sledding and skiing. They became our best friends. The oldest son was 11 and we taught him how to write his first bike. We also were responsible for his first broken bone... And every child after that followed suit. They became lifelong dear friends and the mom has told me on numerous occasions that she's never been more grateful for our influence.
As we heal and grow, we are influenced to inspire those around us. We are able to help people who didn't even know what healing looks like.
Don't be afraid to do hard things, to reach out, and to do the hard work. It's always worth it. Don't quit when it seems hard, add more people to help and support you. Strengthen your inner circle. When your life is not going the way you planned, don't be afraid to try hard things or impossible things. You got this!

Something I do is choose a theme and then include self-care in that theme!
