The first pickleball paddles were ping-pong paddles that pickleball co-founders Joel Pritchard and Bill Bell used in 1965, along with a wiffle ball. A couple years later, larger paddles were constructed out of wood. Today, pickleball paddles have evolved using various composite materials, like the pro paddles shown here, which are constructed with carbon fiber (graphite) faces and polymer honeycomb cores.

Did you know that there are special shoes designed specifically for pickleball?

Yes, you could just throw on a pair of tennis shoes, but if you're using running shoes, you may want to consider switching to a court shoe. Running shoes are designed for forward motion; whereas, in pickleball, there is a lot of side-to-side and pivoting motions. Make sure you wear the correct footwear, such as court shoes, or even better, pickleball shoes!
