Nicoya Peninsula is a magical destination for surfers, beach lovers, birdwatchers and adrenaline seekers!
Separated from the mainland by the Tempisque estuary and the Gulf of Nicoya, Nicoya is home to some of the most immaculate and spectacular beaches in Costa Rica including Santa Teresa, Malpais and Montezuma. Water sports are huge in the Nicoya Peninsula and many surfers consider it the best place to surf in the world. Eco-tourism is also popular here. Tourists and locals alike flock to the Nicoya Peninsula to explore caves, spot wild birds and visit the Cabo Blanco Reserve.

Welcome to Tortuguero National Park, a true jungle paradise where land meets water. You can explore it partly on foot and partly by boatโand trust me, the boat tour is a must! ๐คโจ
During our guided trip, we spotted iguanas, monkeys, sloths, colorful birds, and even a turtle gliding through the water. The sounds of the rainforest and the peaceful glide through the canals made it feel like a movie scene. ๐ด๐ฆ๐
๐ TRAVEL TIPS:
๐ก Book a tour package with multiple excursionsโitโs more cost-friendly.
๐ Take a guided boat tourโthe guides have eagle eyes for spotting wildlife!
โฐ Go early morning or late afternoon when animals are most active.
Itโs a peaceful escape into raw natureโdefinitely one of my Costa Rica highlights. Have you ever visited a national park where nature surprised you like this?

One of the most cherished holiday traditions in Costa Rica is making and sharing tamalesโa flavorful and festive treat enjoyed by families all across the country.
Unlike the Mexican version, Costa Rican tamales are made with a base of corn dough (masa) and are filled with a savory mix of rice, beans, potatoes, and often seasoned meat like chicken, pork, or beef. Theyโre carefully wrapped in banana leaves, tied with string, and steamed perfectly.
๐ฉโ๐ฉโ๐งโ๐ฆ ๐ธ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐ ๐๐๐๐
Making tamales is a family affair! In many homes, generations come together days before Christmas to prepare dozens (sometimes hundreds!) of tamales, which are then shared with neighbors, friends, and relatives as a symbol of love and unity.
๐ฟ Fun fact: Tamales are often served with hot coffee or traditional holiday drinks like rompope (Costa Rican eggnog).
