To our Boulder Roots community,

I hope you are enjoying our series on the unveiling of the new name for Boulder Roots Music Fest.

2026 is an ambitious second year. We’re expanding from three days to five and are up-leveling the lineup of headliners. We have more venues, including the Boulder Bandshell. Though music remains our central focus, we are broadening the experience to include performing arts, visual arts, film, and even a comedic experience.

A festival of this scope doesn’t come together without an extraordinary team behind the scenes. I want to take a moment to recognize and thank the partners powering year two:

Symbiotic — Festival Direction & Management. Symbiotic, the Denver-based event company and one of the engines behind the acclaimed Underground Music Showcase, is serving as our festival directors — leading talent curation, scheduling, and overall operations across the weekend. Their deep experience programming live music in non-traditional venues brings a proven hand to the artist and audience experience.

Mighty Fine Productions — Production. Mighty Fine is leading production — staging, audio/visual, and the technical logistics across our venues — making sure every stage delivers a professional, high-quality experience for artists and fans alike.

Downtown Boulder Partnership — Permitting & Civic Coordination. The Downtown Boulder Partnership is a vital civic partner, supporting permitting and city coordination and helping weave downtown Boulder’s businesses into the festival. Their work connects Boulder Roots to the broader community and amplifies the event’s economic and cultural impact.

We’re grateful to Symbiotic, Mighty Fine Productions, and the Downtown Boulder Partnership for being part of year two of Boulder Roots. Each brings real expertise and a shared commitment to Boulder’s creative community, and their partnership is what makes this festival possible. We’re excited to build something lasting together.

Boulder Roots is owned by the nonprofit Bear Roots (a 501(c)(3)). The Caruso Foundation is the anchor financial sponsor, and Caruso Ventures continues to donate the resources of team members to plan and manage the festival. Nearly all the funding for Boulder Roots comes from individual and corporate sponsors across the Boulder and Denver community. Other community groups, including the City of Boulder, also provide marketing, logistics, and operational support. I express my gratitude to these neighbors and friends, as well as to my Caruso Ventures colleagues. Their generous support and active engagement is what makes the festival possible.

June 30, 2026Boulder Roots Music Fest Announces Name Change, Eyes Bigger Ambitions

BOULDER — Organizers of the Boulder Roots Music Fest have confirmed the event will undergo a full rebranding in 2026, the first of nine planned “editions” leading to a new permanent name. The festival, scheduled for August 27–30, launched last year in partnership with the Roots Music Project but has faced persistent brand confusion with the nonprofit venue.

In a statement released today, Caruso Ventures said the current name no longer fits the festival’s growing ambitions. “We’re building toward an iconic annual event worthy of standing alongside the Bolder Boulder and even Sundance,” organizers wrote, envisioning a broader cultural gathering that unites Boulder’s community around art, innovation, and music while drawing national and international visitors.

Despite the lofty goals, the festival has so far featured relatively few nationally known bands and functions more like a local Boulder garage band meet-up than a major music festival. Critics note the modest lineup has yet to match the scale suggested by its rebranding campaign.

The announcement kicks off a two-week rollout in which organizers plan to share the research, candidate names, and challenges behind the rebrand before unveiling the final choice. Community feedback will be encouraged throughout the process.
