Wow! Aha moment this morning. Really pondering the thought of LOVING MYSELF BEFORE LOVING IRIE…

Seems like a silly thing to say, but it’s really not. For the past 9 months I have sacrificed my entire being for my baby girl. I’ve skipped meals, sleep time, daily shower time… it’s been easy to forget about my own needs and overall well-being.

So, it’s 4AM I’m getting out of the shower and was on my way to stretch, when, what do I hear? Irie is crying! My thought “no!!! I wanted to stretch 😫” My normal habit would be to immediately run to nurse her back to sleep. But, instead I took a deep breath and said “it’s okay mama, you will have ample time to stretch throughout the day.”
Then this idea came to me, “what would it look like, if I could love myself before I loved Irie?”
The example that sticks out most for me in loving myself first is, putting on my own oxygen mask before I put on hers. if I don’t take care of myself first, no one is going to
survive.!

So, I walked to the kitchen to take a glass of water rather then run to nurture her! Wow!! Huge moment for me! I don’t think I’ve ever taken a glass of water for myself before running to something or someone else.

As I ly nursing her back to sleep, replaying what just happened in my head and somewhat shaming myself for this loving myself first stuff… In that exact moment of doubt and shame, my body gave me beautiful gratitude and confirmation!!!! 🥰 milk ran out my opposite nursing breast. Hahaha this hasn’t happened in weeks!!!

The more I love and nurture myself the more I can love and nurture others.
