Nike felt like home. And what a home to have had ❤️‍🔥

I’m beyond grateful for the opportunity to be surrounded by the best.

Thank you , I’ll never forget it.

Thank you to everyone who was excited to see my name on the start list again. I deeply appreciate all of the messages of encouragement.

When I signed up 6 weeks ago I was still learning what recovery from Complex Lyne Disease was, I didn’t understand the path I was about to pursue, and I was hopeful I’d continue on an upward trend.

It’s been a 2 steps forward, 15,0000 steps backwards process. And right now honestly I’m in the hole. I won’t be racing tomorrow but I’m grateful that gave me the opportunity to race and for the for bringing me in to their beautiful community.

A little more patience and a lot more perseverance …

All of my memorable performances came after training camp. After I dedicated time to focusing on performance, surrounded myself with like minded people, zeroed in on my goals, and pushed my mental and physical boundaries.

Join me for training camp February 4th-8th in my favorite place for winter training, Phoenix, AZ and experience the magic of training camp and how it propels you forward.

was my first marathon in 2018. I had no idea what to expect, I had no idea what finishing time was good. I had won a couple local races leading up to it so people started asking me what my goal was- I had no idea what to say. I didn’t know it was the national championship- I wasn’t registered in the national championship field. I placed 7th and ran 2:31:22 which was an Olympic A standard at the time. I had a smart coach who told me to just jog the whole thing to see if I liked the distance, if I did I’d have 10 years to get better at it. This gave me leeway to run negative splits (still way faster than my dad/coach wanted me to go - later I found out he was really nervous watching my splits during the race “she went out too fast”).

Advice no one gave me: wear chaffing cream.

CIM’s results page is so cool!

Have fun!

One of the reasons I love coaching is because I’m inspired and moved by people’s stories, the beautiful moments, the painful ones, and the quiet battles no one else sees.

Every Wednesday morning people show up at practice.
Even when life is heavy.
Even when they’re tired, scared, hurting, or unsure.
They show up and give whatever they have that day.

I love holding space for it all: anger, sadness, fear, joy, excitement, shame, embarrassment, love.

All of it is welcome.
All of it is human.
All of it belongs.

Running has a way of holding us together, focused on doing our best whether we’re in the middle of the hardest season of our lives or riding the high of the best one.

It’s a melting pot out there: struggle, success, reflection, celebration.

No one really knows what anyone else is carrying.

So be kind.
Be encouraging.
Be inspired.

*I don’t know any of these runners and these are not things associated with them.

“Dear Ricardo,

First of all let me introduce myself my name is Steve Prefontaine and I am a distance runner at the University of Oregon. I graduated last year so I know what you are up against.
I was getting letters from all most every major university in the country. But before you make you final choice think about Oregon. The reason I picked it was that the coach here Bill Bowerman is the best distance coach in the world. Last year my best mile in competition was 4:06 already this year in practice I have run 4:01:08 and I’m not even a miler.
You are probably thinking about Kansas but dont forget that he has only had one good distance runner and that was Ryun and he ran him to death.
So before you finally decide, think Oregon for a while, the guys you would have to train with are great. And the people in Eugene think track all the way and are behind you all the way.
If you have any questions about the school please drop me a line.

Yours Truly

Steve Prefontaine”

My dad went on a visit to Oregon right before NCAA nationals but unfortunately Bowerman was in a bad mood because Pre had just cut open his foot so he told him to go anywhere else 😂. He ended up running at Harvard instead.

Grateful to have a dad and coach deep in running history ❤️.
