Happy Birthday to our Gemini company members, Jason Maxwell (today) and Jeff Neuman (a few weeks ago). We're celebrating that the former will be saying the latter's words to a sold-out closing weekend of UNCONTAINABLE.
Boulder artists turn a former Macy’s garage into an immersive theater built from shipping containers Using shipping containers and a vacant former Macy’s parking garage, Boulder-based 3rd Law Dance/Theater and the Catamounts explore how people gather and connect in a changing world.

Just 20 tickets remain for our final six performances of UNCONTAINABLE, created in collaboration with our art sibs 3rd Law Dance/Theater.
Toni Tresca called it "one of the year’s most interesting and artistically innovative works" in OnStage Colorado. Read the review, then grab one of those few remaining tickets via the link in the comments.

Big cat thanks to the Daily Camera for this excellent coverage of our collab with 3rd Law Dance/Theater: UNCONTAINABLE! Two more weekends. Ticket link in the comments!
These Boulder troupes are taking crowds on a nostalgic trip through an unconventional venue Faced with a lack of affordable venue space in Boulder and tightening arts funding, these directors decided to get creative.

The Catamounts have been conjuring up something entirely unique in collaboration with our art sisters over at 3rd Law Dance/Theater. An immersive dance and theater experience in a very alternative venue. Tickets are on sale now!

An awesome birthday present--an award from Denver Westword for Best Immersive Performance--awarded to The Cats for a second year in a row! Congratulations to all the folks who made A TOWN CALLED HARRIS by Jessica Austgen such a hoot.
Best Immersive Performance | A Town Called Harris by Jessica Austgen The Catamounts turned Westminster’s historic DeSpain Schoolhouse into a playful haunted playground with A Town Called Harris. Audience members entered the fictional town of Harris by selecting old-fashioned professions before following actors through the schoolhouse as a historic pageant devolved ...

Fifteeen years ago, On March 25, 2011, The Catamounts opened MR. SPACKY...THE MAN WHO WAS CONTINUOUSLY FOLLOWED BY WOLVES by Emily Schwartz, directed by Amanda Berg Wilson.
The piece featured Joan Bruemmer-Holden, Meredith Grundei, Verl Hite, and Sonia Justl. And a live band that included Bevin Foley, Chris Gilmartin, Kevin Packard, and Ben Berg Wilson. Plus a "Dead Bride Chorus" with Jessica Dow, Hallie Packard, and Alexis Schwartz. Several of these folks responded to an ad posted on Craigslist.
McPherson Horle was our Producer, Regan Fair our Costume Designer, Jessica Buttery our Lighting Designer, Michael Grittner our Scenic Designer, and Lauren Shepard our Stage Manager. They had a budget of not much.
We produced the whole thing in an attic of a church. We took down curtains that covered a beautiful stained glass window so we could feature it in the design. Jess Buttery figured out a way to shine a light through the stained glass from the outside when the "Dead Bride Chorus" made their entrance. Meredith Grundei hid behind a bed for the first half hour of the show because there were no wings (as a result of taking down the curtains) and it felt important that she pop out when it was finally time for her entrance.
The audience got to vote on the ending, with a choice between the "Terribly Awful Ending" and the "Exceptionally Happy Ending." We only got to perform the "Terribly Awful Ending" once, I think. Boulder.
Opening night featured a "Quite Q***r High Tea", where Zac Wilkinson crafted a menu that featured things such as "Deviled quail eggs on pumpernickel with dill" and a "Deconstructed tea gelée."
And thus: The Catamounts was born!
Thank you to EVERYONE who has joined us on a fifteen year adventure of new plays, in new places, with new ways of doing theater. It's been non-stop hard work but also pretty much non-stop joy.
As they say in the "Exceptionally Happy Ending": Hooray forever!
