Who has had a dog fearful of thunderstorms, fireworks, or other loud noises?? 🙋🏼‍♀️

It's a common yet incredibly distressing phobia for animals, and it's one of the most difficult to manage. Predictability might be to blame for that.

How do you help your pets survive summer fireworks and thunderstorms?

Fireworks and Thunderstorms: Keeping Your Dog Safe and Happy All Summer 07/02/2025

Pod to the Rescue hosts Emily, Jenni, and Libby were chatting in our group text this week about prepping our homes for July 4th with our dogs and cats... And decided, hey, we should go live and record a new episode on this!

This was tons of fun, and we shared lots of good info for pet guardians about keeping your dogs safe and happy over the holiday weekend in the US... and during thunderstorms all summer!

We talk about why dogs are afraid of fireworks and thunder, how to recognize signs of fear (even the subtle ones!), and strategies for keeping pets calm and safe.

You’ll learn how to spot canine stress signals, understand dog body language during loud events, what calming dog products work for us. We’ll also debunk the myth that comforting your scared dog makes things worse, because it doesn’t!

Plus, we share what we’re doing this weekend to prep our own dogs, including:

Updating microchip info and ID tags
Using white noise and calming dog music
Preparing soothing chews and frozen enrichment toys
Creating safe spaces
