UPDATE 9/21 ❤️🩹
Day 13 in the hospital
Today has been a little tougher. Yesterday was a lot for both Chris and me, and I think we’re both feeling it today.
The good news is he’s getting up and down more. It just takes SO much energy and strength for him to simply sit up and get out of bed. He still has the staples in his back, has to wear his back brace, is dealing with all of the broken ribs, and of course all of his other injuries. I seriously applaud this man for continuing to push through. He doesn’t give up. ❤️
We FINALLY got some answers from all of the different doctors, and if everything continues in the right direction, we are hoping he will be discharged from the hospital by Wednesday! 🙌🏼🙌🏼
The plan right now is hopefully to send us back to our Airbnb with in-home rehab, rather than having to transport him back and forth to a rehab facility. We are SO grateful for that possibility. Getting him in and out of a vehicle with all of his injuries would be incredibly difficult.
It’s going to be a lot for this girl, but if that’s what we have to do, then that’s what I’m going to do. ❤️ We’re going through the approval process for the in-home rehab today, so fingers crossed! 🤞🏼
We are also still trying to find out whether the Speedrome has accident insurance coverage. Unfortunately, after three messages, I still haven’t received a response. I have to admit, the lack of communication and empathy has been really disappointing and has hurt my heart. We have traveled here every year since 2019, and through everything that has happened, no one from the Speedrome has reached out to check on Chris.
If anyone has information about their accident insurance or knows specifically who I should contact, please send me a private message. I would really appreciate it.
In the meantime, I’ve been working on getting the Airbnb ready for Chris to come “home” to. I’m setting up the bedroom and bathrooms, clearing doorways, making sure we have the equipment he’ll need for everyday tasks, and getting his wheelchair put together. Thankfully, I actually enjoy putting things together, so it gives me something to focus on and keeps my mind distracted for a little while. ❤️
I’m also starting to plan some meals because this man DESERVES a good home-cooked meal! I think we are both beyond ready for some real food and a little bit of normalcy.
We’re also waiting on calls from HR at Boeing and from my employer to make sure we have submitted everything we need and to start getting things moving financially for when we finally return home. We’re also hoping to get some help through Washington State Leave.
Tomorrow’s mission is the DMV! I need to get the disabled parking application, have his doctor complete/sign it, and then get it turned in so we can get his parking placard. Every little thing we can do to make life easier for him right now matters.
There are still so many moving pieces, phone calls, paperwork, appointments, equipment and things to figure out — but one day at a time. Our biggest focus is getting Chris stronger and getting him HOME. ❤️
That’s all for now. Thank you to everyone who continues to follow his recovery, check on us, pray for him, send messages and support us through all of this. It means more than you know.
13 days down. One day closer to home. ❤️🩹
Stay tuned for more updates.
Xoxo ❤️
